I completed Diablo 2 Act 5 on normal difficulty - version 1.07.

I just started Nightmare and noticed some of my resistances were down. Taking off my equipment it shows that I have -30 to all resistances. After doing a search on the net I found out that Nightmare is suppose to be a 20% hit and Hell a 50% hit.

Is there a reason I am taking a 30% hit? Is it because of my version or did the Evil Urns have something to do with it?

Edit:

I also saw that one of the patches "Fixed a bug where you were allowed to multi-buy rejuv potions in stores."

All I am seeing are health potions being sold. In the higher difficulty, will you ever be able to purchase mana potions?

The resistances drop in Nightmare and hell regardless of the version as far as I know.

That's cool, just thought it was weird that I am taking an extra 10% hit.

Doesn't matter, I screwed up in Act 5 anyways. With one of my rewards, I didn't take full advantage of it. It's too early in the beginnig of Act 5 to even want to go that far back now. I think I can work around it and hopefully fix my mistake this time through. For the record, Act 5 totally rocked. I am also finding Nightmare to be a lot more fun since I am powerful now.

I was looking at your Poison Creeper Build and saw that you took Dire wolf to 20 to give the Grizzly extra health. I know against boss monsters they are more or less useless. I was just wondering how did they perform at 20 against normal creatures in the Hell difficulty?

With Oak sage and a new helm adding to Dire wolf, I am one step away from having their health at 300%. I know all this doesn't mean anything when you have a boss monster destroy Oak sage in a blink of an eye. But I think it might be enough to push through the mobs in Nightmare.

Dire wolf damage is low so I am backing off them now and really pushing on my spells. Again, I was just wondering can Dire wolf stay alive at 20 if you are not worried about their attack damage?

Edit:

No problem, I'll beat the game in Nightmare with or without Dire wolf. Since I am playing 1.07 I shouldn't be asking all these questions. It's the beta version so all my stats are messed up. The funny thing is that in 1.07 Dire wolf's health is lower and I am still getting by with them.

I plan on beating the harder difficulty with Arctic/Hurricane/Cyclone anyways. Oak/Dire were good enough to get me this far and gives me the time to improve Hurricane.

I put the points nto Dire Wolves in order to boost the health of the grizzly. IIRC I mostly used the grizzly and poison creeper to tank. (Well the poison creeper is not exactly a tank, but he sure keeps the heat of you and your grizzly.) Volcano was used to finish off the bosses. I didn't really use the wolves to fight any tough battles for me, though in my guide, I quote someone who did. Incidentally, The Amazon Basin is a great website for DII--lots of great info and nice people there.

I'm an idiot, I havn't even touched one fire spell yet.

When we talked about Armageddon before and it being passive, I wasn't understanding the full game yet. I thought I could just get it at level 30 without spending other points. By the time I figured it out, I was on a set path of doing something else.

The first time I played Diablo 2 I was playing a Summoner that dropped points in Raven and Spirit wolf. Then I did a format with my pc, early on in Act 2. Talk about clueless, I am glad I never got back to that game because I wouldn't of had a chance.

I guess I am still at a crossroad.

With Armageddon being a high level spell, I still have the time to grab it and make use of it. But at the sametime, I don't have the points in getting it just yet. I would still have to get the spells before it and that would hurt the skills I am working on now.

Do you know if in Hell, are there things that have immunes to both cold and physical damage?

Edit:

I seen an Arctic Druid build where the person took Armageddon as the secondary skill. Only thing is, he never played it in Hell so I don't know if it's any good. I plan on getting Hurricane to level 10 before Arctic blast anyways.

I just noticed that, even though I am not working on my Grizzly it's still getting the health bonus from Dire wolf. So I can actually keep the Grizzly as one big tank but he won't be doing any damage at all. I saw that quote in your guide. Funny thing is, I used the Grizzly fighting the Ancients but that was in normal difficulty.

Edit:

Here is a quote from your guide.

Quote
These builds require patience and skill to play. As you play them you'll develop the skills naturally.

I kinda feel the same way about my build, it's more about play style.

The biggest factor in my build is to keep freezing everything. Slow down their attacks and it slows down their damage. It's what keeps everyone alive, especially the Dire wolf.

I fight as a pack with my wolves and I am always in the middle of the battles. With three of them forming a wall, you have the time to cast spells and stand your ground. I cast Arctic blast across my wolves and through everything coming at us. I now have Hurricane circling us all and causing extra damage.

Even with Hurricane as a freeze, it still buys you more time. I can keep summoning more wolves as they drop. While letting Hurricane take the place of Arctic blast, it allows me to have the summon spell up. But in good battles I like to be casting all three.

Don't get me wrong, there are times we are all scattered and everything gets crazy.

The key is to still stay with your wolves and fight as a pack. If you leave them alone and don't freeze things for them, then what is the point in having them. They won't last long enough to be of any use, so you might as well choose another path.

Not sure if this is good enough to get me through Hell. Maybe that's why people keep saying to take Armageddon.

I wonder: is it worth it buying Diablo 2 and Lord of Destruction?
cause there soon will be released a bestseller version of Lord of destrucrtion in belguim, and i tought that seeming that you're playing this game it must be a pretty good game.
i downloaded the demo, but i don't really like this 'barbarian' class, but i do like druids and the ability to summon things.

It's hard for me to recommend the game. I did lose interest in it, the first time after a format and didn't go back.

Right now I am playing adventure games and I wanted something on the side to kill things. I got caught up in building my charater and that is mostly what the game is about. It is actually what the whole game is about, power building a character.

The only roleplaying in this game is to kill everything.

Besides the fact that I am trying to roleplay my character. I'm trying to build something with my set of rules. The challenge of that it shouldn't be possible, is what keeps me going.

If you didn't like the demo, you shouldn't expect much more from the Druid.

Edit:

Then again, you might just get into the game for building characters.

I'm going to play my druid out as far as he can go. I completed the game in normal difficulty and now I am on nightmare. If I can't get through the next level because my summons are too weak, then that is that.

I'll come back with revenge playing a Necromancer.

I would like to also mention that since the game is about character builds. There is a lot of focus on items, equipment and unique gear.

Finding a good balance keeps the game interesting. You'll come to the point where you have so much junk, it's time to decide what to keep and what not to keep. There is only one save, so it is a killer when making choices.

How many charms will you keep in your inventory. Too many and you won't have room for loot. You'll find yourself teleporting back to town every five seconds. I'm sure this isn't a problem once you are a high level who disregards most dropped items.

Right now I am hurting for more room in my stash. I was three levels away from having the strength to equip some of my better items. After I leveled once, I added strength and changed weapons to add additional strength. That's because I havn't found one descent druid weapon, so might as well take advantage of that extra slot.

By doing this, it allowed me to equip a secondary shield and free up space in my stash. It also allowed me to wear a four socket gothic plate I had, taking advantage of runes, saphires and rubies. Now I have more space for more junk.

This could also hurt you.

With the socket items I added mana/life and regeneration which is great for now. Since I found a better resistance armor I want to change but this item has no sockets. This will cause me to lose that additional boost with the sacrifice to raise resistance.

How do I work around this, is to wait two more levels until I get the strength normally with stats. Then I can change out the strength weapon with a wand that gives me a huge mana bonus. Now I have more mana and better resistance but I lose out on other things.

Besides the character's stats and skills, this is what the whole game will focus around. Finding a good balance in your gear and you will be changing it constantly.

You can install the MP version of the game. There is a way of running 2 games on one computer so that you can create a mule character and hand off stuff to the mule. I don't remember the particulars of how to do it, so I would suggest you ask around on the D2 forums. Clarify that you are doing it only for SP not for online MP when you ask.

Thanks Cleglaw, your build gives me hope.

I've been reading stuff where people say shifting is the druid's strong point. Now with the new version I hear elemental is strong. It's cool to see that you did it your way and took a new challenge.

If only a couple things resist cold, I don't see why I can't do it. You used a level one arctic to get by something, including other skills. I have helms that give me fire spells that I am saving. So when the time comes, I will change over if needed.

Things are going slower now but I still feel strong. Your build gives me hope for the grizzly also. I got him so I might as well use him, even if for a distracton. If he has the health to stay alive, I don't care what he is hurting. I'm not putting points in him but dire wolf is making his health huge ontop of my oak.

I'll find a way to get around the cold immunes one way or another. I'm building my resistance and I have cyclone armor. My druid will make it through hell even if I have to crawl.

The right Merc can make up for physical immune/cold immune.

Thanks again.

I didn't know much about the mercenaries so I kept the first one I got. It's Aliza who uses cold arrows and she seems to do good damage. She is all leveled up and I always keep her equiped with a very fast attack speed.

I searched around for more info on the mercs, wish I did this earlier because I might have made a different choice. Seems some have pretty good elemental damage. Also the one that has a aura sounds cool if it can help my summons.

But since I am attached to Aliza I think I will keep her.

I was just reading that someone suggests to equip your merc with the opposite damage weapon. I am going to give that a try and see how it works out.

Aliza was using a...

Platinum Razor Bow of Carnage

Two-hand damage 8 to 36
101 to attack rating
14 to maximum damage

When she holds it, the damage shows 45-109.

I just changed her weapon to a...

Static Composite Bow of Burning

Two-hand damage 4 to 8 (I'm guessing this is why it was so cheap)
Adds 1-108 lightning damage
Adds 8-18 fire damage

When she holds it, the damage shows 45-175 in yellow.

I got real lucky in buying this weapon because it was dirt cheap. The first bow was a drop and better than the socket bow I had her using.

Not sure how the new bow will work but I like the over all stat.

I'm level 38 in Nightmare Act 2.

I was messing around and changed mercs to see how a new one would be. I grabbed a level 35 defensive merc but I can't tell what the aura is. I was trying to get one with might to improve the damage of my party.

This merc is 3 levels lower so he does seem to take a lot more damage. I also think it's because he gets too close to the battles. I just remembered I didn't equip him either, so that's a big factor.

I don't know, I am comfortable with the rogue because I think she can stay alive better. Still wondering if I should change over to one that uses fire arrows or keep mine equiped with a different weapon.

Do you know if there are more monsters immuned to cold or fire?

A rogue is a good choice for your build. As to fire vs. cold--pick the one that balances out the build. I don't know if one type of immunity is more common than the other.

That makes the most sense, to balance out the build.

If I am doing all this cold damage, I might as well have a steady source of fire damage. I went back to the rogue camp and grabbed Floria who uses fire arrows. She also seems to be leveling up real quick in the sewers.

Edit:

Came across a huge cold immune in Nightmare and the fire merc saved the day. I was summoming constantly to buy her the time to deal damage. Went through a lot of mana and summons, but the team work was perfect.

I was reading that the normal difficulty mercs have better stats. I am guessing this is only minor or at least in my version. The first merc I leveled up in nightmare did 42-172 compared to 45-175. Then I tried a couple more mercs and it took them two extra levels to do equal damage.

I don't want to go back to the normal difficulty for a merc, so I will just keep the new one from nightmare.
