I am running the full release of Vista 64 bit (our company received our copies last week). and i must say that i LOVE it.... the only thing i dont like is that Nero doesnt work on it....

but i suppose that they will bring out a new release / patch to fix that....

I love the security features... but hate the fact that it wont connect to older versions of terminal server and VPN connections

I heard rumors that the security features are able to slow down gaming considerably in some respect ? Has anyone heard of this ?

There's a Windows Update for XP that upgrades Remote Desktop to version 6.0 specifically for Vista support. Perhaps your clients need to install this or a similar patch for Terminal Services for you to connect?

I don't think gameing is slowed down, but DRM may slow down multi-media playback, etc, and do other potentially bad stuff. From a couple things I read recently, gaming may be the only compeling reason to switch to Vista.

Vista security spec 'longest suicide note in history'

A Cost Analysis of Windows Vista Content Protection (much more interesting than it sounds)

"Windows Vista includes an extensive reworking of core OS elements in order to provide content protection for so-called "premium content", typically HD data from Blu-Ray and HD-DVD sources. Providing this protection incurs considerable costs in terms of system performance, system stability, technical support overhead, and hardware and software cost. These issues affect not only users of Vista but the entire PC industry, since the effects of the protection measures extend to cover all hardware and software that will ever come into contact with Vista, even if it's not used directly with Vista (for example hardware in a Macintosh computer or on a Linux server)."

BadVista.org/

"Vista is an upsell masquerading as an upgrade. It is an overall regression when you look at the most important aspect of owning and using a computer: your control over what it does. Obviously MS Windows is already proprietary and very restrictive, and well worth rejecting. But the new 'features' in Vista are a Trojan Horse to smuggle in even more restrictions."

BTW, MS removed the restriction of only being able to transfer Vista to a new computer once.

I am currently running the "Windows Vista Business" 32 bit version for 3 or 4 weeks
i'll try to get the 64 bit business version on monday

on topic i heard from a friend that they are dropping the vista only 1 computer thing....you can transfer it as many times as you want as opposed to what has been said before

however i can't prove this yet, because i just heard it from a friend and i don't want to get flamed... but i thought i might mention it and entertain you with the thought of what might happen or already happened
i'll find out more on monday

in any case windows xp only supports up to 4 gig of memory

vista supports more then 4 gig so there you have it
also once they fix or if they ever will fix the flaw in the 64 bit vista
then 64 bit will be completely protected for vista

i have 2 sticks of 512 ddr 1 dual channel
and when i was on xp, my battlefield 2142 online game with 64 people
and the world tearing itself apart heh......well i had excellent frame rates

now when i play battlefield 2142 online game with 64 on vista.....my frame rates took a significant hit because the os takes more memory then windows xp

but if you buy more memory then this shouldn't be a problem

and as far as memory goes
its hard to find dirt cheap and i mean "dirt cheap" memory bundled together so you can have dual channel....... but you can find single package memory cheap 1 time deal offers....good luck getting that dual channel though

anyway i like vista...
besides the fact i have to use unoffical drivers for my video card which works very great still....i miss the offical ones though

no printer driver support for my printer

and support for anti virus software is an all time low

This is SpArTa!! oh im sorry, I must have took a wrong turn..somewhere...(runs away)

They dropped it indeed. Sry for posting it this late

What I heard from professionals that have used it is that it is to much idiot proof. They (and myself) are professionals (linux ftw ) And they don't like a warning every time you do this or that. So thay are searching for the options to remove those things. But they do say it's a good OS for non pro's

It's microsoft, they probably fixed all security holes by covering them up with some wooden planks. It's only a matter of time someone takes an axe to those planks.

No the security is really good. But is will be the one of the most used OS's so Virus makers and malware makers will target it. But the philosophy of the security is good with Vista

Vista Clues

A very handy site with almost all vista changes and abilities.

Give alcohol about 2 months and it will have a vista version available...
for DVD imaging (unfortunately you cannot mount images, but you CAN create them) DVD shrink's image recorder uses Vista's built in capabilities to create DVD images. that you can later write again via DVD shrink.

Any one read about the voice hacks. If you have voice commands on and some website plays a file like "delete program files" it will delete program files .

I am on vista

and loving it....

but make sure your pc is vista compatible before you attempt to upgrade.... there are still driver issues with devices...

i was lucky... enough knowledge to force drivers... which means i could get everything working, except my scanner.... and... my card reader only reads... when you try to write to a card, it tells you its write protected....

but thats the only downfalls i have so far...
