I'm thinking about writing something about the world of Divine Divinity. Just cause I like it and it's fun to do.
Here are my thoughts about the "geography" and a few questions. Feel free to correct me <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />

The whole world together is called Rivellon. It is divided in the Dukedom of Ferol, the Black Forest, the Council of Seven hall and the Wastelands.

the Dukedom of Ferol is divided by a river.
**West of the river you have the village Aleroth, where the healers live. The village is somewhat leaded by Mardaneous, the oldest and wisest of the healers. Beneath Aleroth are the Catacombs.

Question 1: We don't know who was "made" the catacombs, do we?"

**East of the river we have the rest of Ferol.
The most important and populated places are:
-the Poor Quarter
-the Farmlands
-Nericon's Garden (important because of it's history)
-next to Nericon's Garden is a cemetery. it's important cause behind it lays Iona's dungeon, Iona is an important member of Black Ring.
-on the other side of Nericon's Garden there's the Holy Weapons chamber
-Rivertown, the commercial center of Ferol. beneath it are the Rivertown sewers which are connected with the treasure rooms of Stormfist Castle and the Verdistis Sewers
-the Dwarven Village where the Dwarves of Ferol live
-Stormfist Castle, where the Dukes of Ferol live and reign
-in the southeast there's a camp of the Orcs who are at war with the humans. and in the west of that camp there used to be a village but it's ruined and left by the inhabitants because of the orcs.
-in the southwest there is the archers guild of the elves
-there are also two Inns in Ferol: the Blue Boar Inn (near the Poor Quarter) and the Dwarven Bread Inn (near the Dwarven Village)
-and at last there's the big city in the north: Verdistis. In Verdistis you can find an Inn (the Ducal Inn), the Thieves' Guild, the Merchants' Guild, the Assassin's Guild and some houses of the rich and noble

Question 2:I have some doubts about Rivertown. I would think that everything west of the river is called Rivertown, and not only the commerial center where the merchants are. And then the commercial center is called Ars Magicana...

the Black Forest lays south of Ferol. In the East there are mountains, in the west is the actual forest.

**In the mountains you can find:
-the Dwarven Halls and Mines, where the Dwarves and their king live.
-the Imp's Castle. the Imp's live there but the most of them are spreaded in the mountains.

**In the forest you can find:
-the Elven Village and their Burial Grounds
-a higher grounds somewhat in the middle of the forest with the Warriors' Guild on top of it.
-in the north there's also an ancient burial chamber

Question 3:Where are the Council of Seven hall and the Wastelands actually situated? It could be usefull to have the ingame teleporters map, but I didn't find it yet...

about the Wastelands: they aren't actually inhabited. there are a few houses in the West but that's it.
In the east there's a large lake with an isle. On the isle you can find the entrance to the Black Lake Dungeon. In the Dungeon are the fortresses of the five most important Black Ring members: Cornelius, Iona, Moriendor, Demona and Josephina. The last fortress is the Fortress of the Demon of Lies.

These are the "places of interest" in Divine Divinity. If I have forgotten something, feel free to say. I think I will write about some more aspects of the world but that's something I'll post later on.

[color:"orange"]Question 1: We don't know who was "made" the catacombs, do we?"

I vaguely recall Lanilor(?) saying that the catacombs were there before the town, and that Mardaneus entered soon after the founding of the town, then ordered them sealed, never giving a reason or describing what he found.
I don't remember if it is mentioned in game whether the necromancer made the catacombs or moved in later. He started experimenting with his living servants, so the catacombs may have started off as a family mausoleum below a mansion, or something.

[color:"orange"]Question 2:I have some doubts about Rivertown. I would think that everything west of the river is called Rivertown, and not only the commerial center where the merchants are. And then the commercial center is called Ars Magicana...

I took the whole first map area to be Rivertown, east and west of the river.

[color:"orange"]Question 3:Where are the Council of Seven hall and the Wastelands actually situated? It could be usefull to have the ingame teleporters map, but I didn't find it yet...

The marker for the council hall teleporter is in the north west part of the map, partly obscured by the mountain range. I don't know if that gives the rough physical location, or if the marker was just stuck in an open area of the map.

[color:"orange"]about the Wastelands: they aren't actually inhabited. there are a few houses in the West but that's it.

The deserted town would have been inhabited if the publisher had not rushed the release of the game, forcing Larian to cut back on the ending.

surely Rivellon is bigger that just Ferol and the forest (and the other parts you mentioned)? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/silly.gif" alt="" />

... it is! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />

After seeing that new screenshot (which I believe might well be from Rivellon, too <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" /> ), I believe you. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />

What about the sewers? =P

I personally think that Rivertown is the whole area east of the river.

is that a hint about where the new game will take place <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" /> ?

I mentioned them <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/kitty.gif" alt="" />

thx for the answers. I'll take the part east of the river as Rivertown, with Stormfist Castle as it's center.

After two years of absence I had the wonderful idea of doing a bit of retrogaming grin
I started with Age of Kings (atleast that's retro for me) and ended with DD.

Ofcourse, as I expected, DD turned out to be still the wonderful and amazing game as it was at the moment when I first played it. And I enjoy the story even more now. In fact, I'm so obsessed with it that I try to steal every manuscript and book I can find to store them away in my libraby (situated at Joram's) and read them later by candlelight and with a glass of wine during one of my "gathering knowledge and wisdom about Rivellon sessions" silly

But there's one part of the story I don't understand. When you serve as the Lord Protector in Stormfist Castle and people believe that Janus is the Divine One, they always talk about the fact that the Divine One is sided by a wise advisor and a strong bodyguard. For them, the wise advisor is Elona and the strong bodyguard me, the Lord Protector. But as it turns out that I am eventually the Divine One, no one speaks anymore about that wise advisor and the bodyguard. So, who are they? Or is it just a myth/legend they were talking about?

Also, maybe Zandalor could be the wise advisor but who is the strong bodyguard then?
Or maybe Arhu, the cat, is the advisor and Zandalor the strong bodyguard (strong with magic)?

Zandalor is more the wise advisor type (telling you about the teleporter pads, the history of the sword of lies, the original council, etc). He does save you from the first dragon rider, but is kind of short on action after that. Arhu is also more of an advisor, though helps out directly once (Iona's dungeon).

Perhaps one or both of the other 2 marked ones were suppose to be bodyguards, but were too stupid to survive long enough to make themselves useful?

Maybe advisor and protector were not meant to be separate roles filled by two different people. Zandalor could be called an advisor and protector (as could Arhu, to a lesser extent).

Yes that could be true indeed. The Marked One will be sided by a wise advisor and a strong bodyguard, which means one person who is both an advisor and a bodyguard.

Or maybe Larian just has overseen to work out that part of the story later on.

I went to do some research in my libraby and ... hm hm...yes...hm...aha...hm hm...*more old-wizardlike mumbling mage*...nope, I didn't find any manuscripts about the Divine One that were telling of the advisor and bodyguard.

Post contains numerous spoilers! ^-^

This game is just incredible : )
I've finally completed it, after keeping this gem among games on a shelve, for years, unaware of its amazing potential.

The world itself is full of lovely details which make the whole thing even more enjoyable. This is what i call RPG - i finished it with my jaw wide open... but i have a simple question ; )

I assume that our hero decided to spare the boy, right? Isn't that equal to unleashing hell on earth? ^^

Oh, one more thing - I was a bit disappointed that I weren't able to meet with my lovely Eleanessa in the Wastelands (damn i'm a geek). The creators of the game at least could have left us a hint about her well-being or whereabouts ^^

Edit.
I found a topic with some major spoilers regarding BD (perhaps i ruined the whole fun, but i just couldn't wait ^^).

SPOILER ALERT!!! : )

It seems that the plot of both games is connected after all. The Deathknight is the child seen on the last cut scene of DD - adopted by our hero who failed miserably at parenting ^^ It also seems that the makers of the game decided to call the Divine One Luccius - did i get it right? ^^

The Divine One does go by the name Lucian in the BD prequel novella, and the baby is named Damian. For those that have not finished the game, you could have been a little less specific above...

Welcome to the forum. wave

Posted by Marian in another topic, about the DD cutscenes;

*sigh*
I would have never thought that the language of pure image is so hard to understand. We have to think about that in the future...

MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD!

Ascension "Blessing" cutscene
After you got sacrificed by the council of seven your spirit awakes in a divine realms on an altar. Around you the ideas of the seven gods are manifesting. You can roughly separate impish, human, elven or orcish gods...
Everyone of them grabs into their chest and puts a small part of the heart into your weightless shape. After you received all blessing the div in you is fully developed and so her wings grow and she flies up to the mortal plane where she descends as the reborn hero into the wastelands.

Extro scene
You see the demon of lies dying. In fact you see the mutiliated body of janus ripped into pieces and the leftover, the sword of lies, remains. It comes closer and tries to seduce the hero. The hero is tempted to take it but refuses and sends it back to hell away from the mortal plane.
Then the hero hears the cries of the baby. Knowing that it is the lord of chaos inside the child he/she draws the dagger to kill it. In the hero's moral struggle to kill a neborn innocent child the scene fades out.
Much later you see the hero walk out victorious into the swamp area. He carries something. Loot? The child? You don't know for sure...
Somewhere on a distant hill Arhu and Zandalor watch you coming when suddenly the statue you lifted up in the sky while entering the katacombs of aleroth comes down finally...(side joke, nothing more)

Question 1: After you unfreeze Lanilor, he has some things to say about the catacombs. On their origins, "some of it is an ancient dwarf-working, but most of it is natural.". That seems to suggest that the catacombs were constructed long ago by dwarfs. Which makes some sense, since Stormfist Castle was named for the Dwarf who first explored the area.

Incidentally, I believe the large forest is called the Dark Forest, not the Black Forest, which is a minor distinction.

Q2: In my personal view, I think that the Farmlands and Poor quarter are part of Rivertown, but the market is just the market, not called Ars Magicana.

Q3: I think the Council of Seven is located roughly where the teleporter map says it is, and the Wastelands are in the southeast of the teleporter map.

I've found a copy of Ruben Ferol's Prophecy.
