Who do you think will be publishing this game? Will it be CDV? Or another publisher?

Never ever CDV, I assume.

I assume they're also as done with them as we fans are.

I'm hoping they'll be using an mid-range publisher, or, if an bigger one, then under special conditions, whgich are good then for Larian.

I believe they've learned from their past mistakes.

Besides, I think that putting several weeks between the release in each country could make early bugfixing less hectic - would be only for a single country at a time, then.

Btw, Anaconda/DTP?! Omg, go for them... quick! Given there're few decent publishers around anymore, I don't think it'll be that easy to find a suitable developer.

Plus, if Jane Jensen's Gray Matter becomes a huge hit like her Gabriel Knight series, then this publisher might reach cult status. In which case, even more attention will likely be paid to other games which carry its' label(s). Of course, all these are "ifs" but in business, many factors are never a certainty.

Besides, Anaconda/DTP seems to care a lot for their customers and the game devs instead of kicking them around like: "haha suckers... we'll take all the profit and your dreams and bind you to a contract which implicitly states that all your ideas belong to us... muhwahahaha. Oh and if you bought the game? Nya nya... we don't need you anymore."

Well, whatever the case: I wish Larian the best. Shop around and don't fall for the money slinkers.

On hearsay, it sure does seem like a great company although... gotta wonder about their reputation like "How is their customer support?", "How do they aim to handle publishing a game in a non-European country? Will this be done by another company?", "Do they respect the game developers?", etc.

I guess a good way is to look at how they handled certain games and see how much PR they managed to put out and the player feedback. Even if a game is by a renowned and accomplished developer, it will still flunk or suffer from reduced sales if there's insufficient PR and if there's controversy over how the publisher handled the game(butchering the game, rewriting stuff, etc.).

Take for example: Atari and the Witcher. The publisher supposedly added new lines to the dialogue and cut out a lot of other content. As a result, the whole thing was blown out of context and a significant number decided not to buy it while the developers were turned into scapegoats.

Yes, it's doing rather well although I'm quite sure that issue dented quite a bit of the sales figures. But they were lucky, though... the issue didn't balloon into something larger which could have crushed their hopes of seeing their efforts come true.

Who's Nairal? I can't find any mention of them on Gamasutra or even Mobygames given that both feature major and even indie developers/publishers.

Agreed... the problems with CDV likely dented the sales as much as threefold or even more. And it looks like once the publisher had met their "set" target of sales, they didn't seem to bother with advertising. To be frank: even in Singapore, I hadn't even heard much of the game until one of my American pals mentioned it. And many of my rpg friends didn't even know about this game!

Anyways, I don't think the poor sales were just 'cos of 2d games: just look at some of the controller games converted to PC format. Good press and PR can even turn over the tide and sooth the players especially when another technology is still new. That's when 3d was quite new and things looked so ugly, I couldn't stand most of them 3d games.

Yeah... well, whoever the publisher will be: I hope they take good care of the localisations. I've heard of games which were really good but were "destroyed" by poor translations.

I think as well that dtp would be a good choice - at least here where I live.

I'm in the official Drakensang forum - which will also be published by dtp - and I must say that they have quite a friendly athmosphere there.

I have met a few dtp members on a roleplaying games convention, the "FeenCon" in Bad Godesberg, part of Bonn, former capital of Germany, and had quite long chats with them - regarding the evelopment of Drakensang and the "Realms of Arcania" games.

They seem to actively support fan-sites and are generally quite positive - at least that's my very personal impression.

Personally, I would be glad if dtp and Larian worked together, but I must admit that I know next to nothing about how dtp behaves internationally.

Okay, that sounds really good 'cos publishers/developers who've these "holier than thou" or "sod-off" attitudes are darn annoying.

Generally quite positive? That's great.

About the international thing: I've got no idea either. Larian better make sure that said publisher gets this right. So far, found an interesting article about Anaconda:

I'm talking about "all over the world", because most of our future games will be published worldwide by us. That means that we will be the actual publisher, and we will give the license to put the game on the market to a local publisher. To keep the players' focus on what we are doing, the new label will be on any adventure (and, in the future RPG as well) we publish.

Whether that's still their strategy, I don't know.

Cool! It's yet another hybrid game(action + adventure). Hmmm... so finally, more developers are willing to combine genres.

Edit: Still, can we all get back to topic please?

Topic..? oh yeah, well it's dtp, simple as that. No other Belgian developer is working on a rpg. There are only 2 developers worth mentioning and 1 is working on Totems(action/platform) and the other one is working on Divinity 2(working title?).

When?

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to hide the bodies of those I had to kill, because they pissed me off.

Well, we won't know if it's really a deal until announcements have been made. After all, haven't developers switched publishers before?

Okay, let's say if it's not dtp... who else would be a good choice?
