Well the Games Convention of Leipzig is one of if not the biggest event for gamingpress in the world. So basicly, its the only place a publicher needs to be for the whole gaming world to know about its games in a few days.

There's no such thing in Belgium, other options are Tokyo and E3...

It's one of these days...

Maybe the Belgian forum members could gather somwhere and start an expedition into the Larian buildings to steal the information when they're not giving it to us...

All Belgian forum members: we meet friday 2008/08/08 at 2300 hours at location 50°52'10.77"N 3°36'16.01"O
When all expedition members are present we will scan the area and then proceed with mission "Baby Dragon", which implies entering the building at 50°52'11.32"N 3°36'14.44"O. Our main task is gathering as much information there is possible. Our side mission will be stealing other cool stuff related to Divinity games and their cookies.

I see you on location. Over and out. rpg006

Unfortunately, Leipzig is too far away from me.

But next year the GC is in Cologne, under a different name, most likely. wink

If the cookies are gone, I'm sure a certain Russian composer will have something to do with it! silence

I read that somewhere too. But when I was scanning the GC site I found a statement that they will not be moving (Click me).

Cologne is for me a lot closer as well, but apparently the GC 2009 will be just as far away as this year wink

The point is that in Cologne there will be the "GamesCom" or how it is called,

but the Leipzig people understandably don't want to let such a "big fish" go.

Also, the Leipzig fair holds the rights to the names 'GC' and GamesConvention. But the big publishers have all said they'd go to Cologne, which is much more accessible for the international trade and press public, plus there's lots more room for expansion. I'm not sure what will be left for the GC in Leipzig next year. Possibly it will be a family-oriented fair with only small local developers and publishers, leaving the business/trade/press/behind closed doors stuff to Cologne. I know I'm planning to go to Cologne from 2009 onwards, but if anything exciting is announced for Leipzig I might have to visit both. *shrug* Cologne is an hour and a half to drive, Leipzig is that plus a plane flight of an hour, so not that much difference for me.

The Cologne game fair will be called "GamesCom", as far as I know.

That is from September 9 to September 13 2009. There even is a link for it already [url=http://www.gamescom.org], but it has the same contents as the official pages of the cologne fair. It appears there might be a games convention in August next year and this fair in Cologne in September. I wonder how that will work out. Probably not good for either of them.

Yes, I fear that there might be some quarrel, especially since the ones who wanted the fair to take place in Cologne are the so-called "heavy-weights" of the gaming industry ...

Maybe Leipzig really was too small for them, but conspiracy theorists might also see some kind of pressure on the Leipzig GC host.
