So after waiting a very long time I finally got the text message that my pre-order was in. I install the game and the first annoying thing is that I can't skip any movies. Then I start a new game and all I get is a menu to create a character. The only prolem is that everything other than the menu is black. I don't see a face anywhere. So I continue anyway (since the escape button doesn't seem to have any function in DD2), and get the same thing again. I get some text and hear someone talking to me but other than the menu everything is blank. I've tried just about every setting in the options and nada.

What is your GFX? If it's Nvidia's one - completely remove current driver (via Add/Remove programs) and install 182.50 (I recommend this version for D2).

I had 190 somthing, and installed the lastest after trying DD2 the first time. But seriously, why should I have to install an old driver for a game that came out today... Guess I'll have no choice if I wanna play it

There is nothing bad installing old drivers. Actually, 182.50 isn't old and, if you will check the drivers changelog - there wasn't any changes for Divinity 2. Also, many users confirmed that 182.50 works much better for them in many 2009 titles (Risen, Batman, etc...).
It's your choice after all. Do not forget to reset all settings to default (in Nvidia CP).

Ok, uninstalled and installing 182,50 atm. But this driver doesn't support that Nvidia PhysX yet. Is this PhysX needed for anything? I'm no expert at all these thingies. Oh my card is 9500GS btw.
Edit: It now says something about a wrong version of PhysX before I start the game. I can still start it though. But it's still the same problem. No graphics at all, just black. Aside from menus

Nevermind about PhysX, it just says that it doesn't know about your PhysX version. Btw... What is your OS? 64bit?

Vista Premium 64bit yea.
I've gotten it to work a litte. The problem only seems to occurs whenever I change anything in the graphic options. My screen has 1400x900 resolution and every time I set it like this I get the problem. If I go to graphic options it says I'm running at 640x480, but I's definatly not at that. ALso every time I try to exit the game it freezes.

This is not a problem with the OS, probably something with graphics settings. I'm going to check with the engine guys tomorrow.

A bit more detail.
Resolutions 1440x900 and 1360x768 don't work. Anything lower does. I have a widescreen monitor though, and all the other resolutions are 4:3. And when I do put it in 1440x900 or 1360x768, I only get the graphics to work when I turn of HDR. But then everything (avatar, terrain, objects) go transparent, so it's a really weird effect. The funny thing is that if I start up the game and don't change anything it appears to run at 1440x900 eventhough the graphics menu says 640x480.
Oh, and this has nothing to do with my problem, but is it me or do the female legs look unproportionally long? :p

Larian games never liked "non-standart" resolutions ;O Oh, and this has nothing to do with my problem, but is it me or do the female legs look unproportionally long? :p Umm.. lol? They pretty normal. Just "They pretty." even :P

Important: The way to fix the problem is right click on the Divinity 2 icon and go to propertaies. Go to the compatibility tab and select "disable desktop composition" and if you are on Vista or Windows 7 select "run as administrator" and apply. The game works correctly after that.
I am having the same problem except that it is black with anything other then 800x600 and it won't show resolutions above 1280x760. (The resolution that I use for games is 1360x768) I also have another problem which is that the graphics are distorted but the lower the graphics the less distortion there is.
I am using Windows 7 with the newest Nvidia drivers but will try to revert to older drivers.
PS. I tried a friends german version when it first came out and didn't have any of these problems but I was on Vista with older video drivers at the time. (this includes the problem of not having higher resolutions available) (I had it at a much higher resolution at the time)
EDIT: Nevermind everything is working now after using compatibility modes. It is still a bit distorted is I run it at lower resolutions but setting it to 1920x1080 removes the distortion. (anything lower and there is some distorion)

I have tried the obvious already and it doesn't change anything. This is not a problem with the OS, probably something with graphics settings. I'm going to check with the engine guys tomorrow. So...
