Questions:

Are the people who are experiencing this behaviour playing the original shipped version? Did you do anything to the installation? Did you apply a patch? Did you apply a wrong patch? Did you mess around with .dv2 compressed files? Did you try to change the language of the game in the registry? Are you using a hack or crack or something?

I have to ask because this behaviour used to be easily reproducible when something was wrong with dialogs.dv2 (e.g. wrong language setting, wrong file, etc). So if you are experiencing this, please acknowledge that you are playing the officially released installer without having changed/hacked anything manually yourself or with non-Larian applications.

(I know this may sound rude and I'm _not_ saying you are all a bunch of hackers, nor do I suspect this, we just need to make sure this is not the case.)

Straight out of the box here english version.
All i've done is try the suggestions as per this forum.

Tried it on my q6600/gtx275 work system and it works fine, but my sons system which is the system it is to go on, which is AMD 64 3700+/9800gt has the problem.

Hello

I´m playing the original spanish version released last week, it´s updated with latest patch as in german/english version
Custom installation, the issue occurs with original DVD and after aplying a no-DVD crack
I didn´t mess around with .dv2 files and didn´t change anything on registry
I tried to use a savegame file downloaded but it seems to didn´t work on spanish version

Regards

Zolee and / or Cathgar:

Can you please confirm that lowering the resolution to minimum and setting texture quality to lowest does not resolve the problem ?

Reason we ask is because that is the workaround we have here on our test machine. (And this is the only machine on which we can reproduce it).

That would mean that we are at least looking at the same problem.

Hi,
I also bought the original English DVD version for pc, installed it multiple times, ran update, have all drivers and other stuff good.

I couldn't play the game after the load screen behind the scene with the ladybird after character creation.

I have however been able to play the game by skipping that part and use the savedgame file posted somewhere here in the forum.
Until today, when killing the ghost you can head on to the tower and beyond, but when running close to the temple remnants, or whatever it is in the open field behind the narrow path, there is again a loading screen. Then I am stuck again. Tried six times now, maybe I try more.

Also I tried using the teleportation shrines(sry forgot the real name). It has the same effect and the game doesn't react anymore (infinite loading screen).

Also note, when it happens I mostly can return to windows (sometimes only thanks to screensaver that starts running) and in taskmanager the game is shown as "Doesn't react/Reageert niet meer".

I also remember getting stuck happen one time during another load session, don't know which anymore and second attempt did work.
*edit* I remember now, it was with the loading for going to forgotten valley from the starter village.

I have amd64 3200+, 8600gts oc in sli, 2gig memory.
*edit* Might be relevant, DVDRW NEC 3540
*another* Vista 32bit Business

Also, I tried it in various ways, lowest settings(reso was 1024xX though, my native is 1280*1024), single core optimised, best settings, doesn't matter. I played in average to best settings without lag.

Some other things I noticed:
-music keeps running, and the tooltips while loading too, so at first sight, there seems nothing wrong (xcept that you never get any further), you only notice it when going to windows and check task manager. Also the process doesn't run at 100%, no anormalities there either, it just stuck n gone.
-while starting the game your windows gives a message that some processes running do not support the current theme (vista aero, in black it is with me) and sets itself to default.
-In load screens I never see any loading bar or no indication how far the loading is. (but i did play the game, saving/loading without problems so that prolly is something else, or just doesn't exist(yet)).

Yeah, as ForkTong said: the same happens if game can't find required dialogue resources during loading process. Problem is that in this case it is not the reason ;<

Also, happens on Russian version too.

Hm, I suddenly remembered I still have my laptop too, it has a broken gpu however, but ideal to get me passed the loading issues when it occures.

So far loading issue happened:

* after ladybird scene after character creation. Had to pass with savegame transfer.
* when done in Farglow and after talking to the DS to go to broken valley. Second time no issue anymore.
* scene with the last DK Talana doesn't start, just load screen. Had to pass with sg transfer.
* broken valley - derelict tunnels, the first stepstone that teleports you back to the start of the tunnel(not the goblin/tower exit), loading issue again. Had to fix with savegame transfer.
* broken valley - derelict tunnels, the stepstone that teleports you to the goblin exit, loading issue again. had to fix with savegame.

Maybe this will help narrowing down the possibilities.

Some replies from russian forums: it doesn't helps.
But! Here is the short comparison how D2 works on diff platforms:

Turion x2 Ultra\Mobility Radeon HD3650\4GB RAM\Windows Vista -> works fine, just these annoying black-borders (can be fixed via ATL+TAB)

Athlon64 3200+\GeForce GTX260\2Gb RAM\WindowsXP SP3\ -> does not work, got stuck on loading screen.
