I have read all the links and post regarding this issue and it hasn't helped, so I thought I'd post to ensure the issue will still be looked into and not treated as resolved.

I had this issue on the demo as well but was confident that it was fixed for the US release. It wasn't.

Basically I'm playing the US PC version that was released yesterday. My system is Vista 32 with a Nvidia 8800 video card and 4 GB ram. The monitor is a widescreen 1600X900 and I do everything in that resolution.

The game loads like normal and I've seen the beautiful opening scene many times now, but when I click on new game there isn't a paper doll standing next to the options menu. Once in the game I can hear and see the text of conversations but can not see anything else. The screen is black. I have tried other resolutions and have found it works with 1280X800 and below but this is unsatisfactory to me. I want my clear crisp 1600X900 that my system was made for. I find the lower resolutions to be distorted and grainy in appearance and it's killing me knowing it could probably be so much more under my desired 1600X900.

I've followed all the tips so far from running as administrator and disabling desktop composition, downloaded the lastest nVidia drivers to include Vista DirectX 9c drivers.

Has anyone else had this issue and did you get it to work?

Thanks in advance for any help.

same prob as OP

high res = black screen (sept for cinimatics and UI)ive tried all the tips to work around it but seems like the highest i can go is ~1240x800 (when i restarted the game it resests to 640x480 so the 1st link dont work. guessing the steam patch mest up that work around cause its more up to date)

http://www.larian.com/forums/ubbthre...ber=395840&an=

(and yes my vid drivers are up to date never had a prob runing 1440x900 res on any game ; ( )

Thanks for the bump. I've been hoping someone would address this for the past two days, but now I'd just be happy knowing if anyone out there IS actually playing at 1600 X 900. I'm beginning to think the game is meant to play on lower resolutions.

I have the same problem at 1680 x 1050 and the only thing I've found that fixed it is disabling HDR.
Got visual working but now I have the see thru graphics problem, so going to go in and disable more features that are supposed to make the game look better. mad

Kind of a waste to have a high powered system when you can't even use the features the game is supposed to be able to handle.

Updating to the newest 195.62 Nvidia drivers right now, don't think that is going to help though. Using 195.32's right now.

I have the same exact problem as the op, I get a black screen when trying to run at 1600x900. I was hoping the new patch would fix the issue however it still is messed up. I'm probably going to shelve this one for a while, maybe then I will be able to play the game without it looking like crap.

I have the same problem also, I use a 19 inch wide screen and I have to run the game at 1240x800 or else the screen goes blank when it reloads. When I try to restart it to see if that fixes anything it just crashes. I'm using an Nvidia 9800 vidio card and the latest driver along with a 3.0 GHz dual processor and windows XP.. the game should run beautifully yet it forces me to put everything at medium, if I max everything other than the resolution it works but I end up with around 10fps.

Hmm yesterday I was able to run the game at any resolution except my desktop resolution. Which I thought was weird now today it only runs at 1440x900 and that is it.
I change the resolution and restart the game as it asks and on going back into graphics options it is set back to 1440x900 no matter what I set it to.

Yesterday on changing the resolutions the game did not even ask to be restarted just asked if I wanted it applied went black and then came up with the res I set. Worked at any resolution below my max/native resolution as I said. More weirdness.

Does the automatic setting it to 1440x900 have anything to do with the popup every time on game start that states that it detected my physx version is different.
Really should not have anything to do with that though but that is the only thing different from yesterday to today.

I have the same issue. I want to play on my native resolution 1440x900. When i started my first game it defaulted to 640x480. When i change it to 1440x900 everything but the GUI is black. I can hear sounds and dialogue however. 1280x800 does work.

Same problem here. Doesn't run on my native res 1680x1050. i7 920 - Win7 64 bit - GTX260.
Everyone with the problem seems to use GeForce cards, response of ATI card owners would be nice.
Sure hope this issue gets resolved quickly, I paid for this game and don't want jaggies screwing my experience!!

I'm having the same problem trying to run 1440-900 on my ati 3850. Latest drivers installed and all that good jazz. Wondering when this will be resolved.

Tried it, not a fix for this problem.. It might help those with Vista I'm not sure but as far as I can tell, it does nothing.
