Why don't you just try "playing by Forum" ?

I think "some" are trying to find other players here, Alrik.

LOL - We printed out the 'magic' manuals & put them in notebooks so we could reference them while we were playing and if there was any dispute on which 'action' happened first we could always run to a computer to check the Magic site. It was fun, and strategy was very important. Of course, it always helped if you knew which color deck the other people preferred to play. That way you could always have some cards that were protected from black or red, etc.

I play the LOTR TCG. Anyone else ?

Magic was fun, too, but I decided to quit. I re-started playing Magic when the Beta for "Magic online" started. But now after the release I sometimes play with the pre-constructed decks, because it´s for free and you don´t have to buy cards and you don´t have to worry about killer decks

Is the online gaming pretty decent? I haven't tried yet - for some reason buying virtual cards and then if you buy the real thing they disappear from your virtual deck just doesn't make sense to me.

Because all of my friends who played magic stopped playing or moved away, "Magic Online" is a nice substitution. But only in the Beta, there were all cards for free . In the final version you have to buy your virtual cards like real cards and that sucks a lot.
You can also play in the demo-mode with some free decks (without even registering). The game engine is very good, only the chatrooms could have made more clearly arranged (and your screen resolution should at least be 1024x768).

Thank you - I'll check it out.

They should let you buy your real packs and have a number associated to those packs which then gives you a virtual set when you enter it online.

It is very expensive if you start collecting. The only way to play on limited funds is to pick a Starter or prepackaged deck & buy 3 or 4 Booster packs to add to it and just play with them. If you could add a booster pack every 2-3 weeks, you collect slowly and can build some pretty awesome decks.

A good way to get a efficient card deck is to buy single cards in cardshops or @ ebay. But therefore you have to know the game and the different cards and strategies very well.

When you buy "Starter-" and "Booster-Packs" you have lots of unused cards and only a few really good cards that fit to your deck. So you have to buy more and more booster packs to get the necessary cards for a nice deck (that means spending more and more money). And of course you have to know some other people who have their own cards to play the game (or you need enough cards for several decks). You can also trade your unused cards for other cards with other players.

True, but you have to start somewhere and like you said until you know the game a little you don't know what makes up a 'killer' deck. The worst part for me is that I stopped collecting a couple of years ago (except for a couple of already made decks) and I know I'm several sets off by now. It would be tough to start playing again, but ...
