...level editor for making single player missions/campaigns. With that the 100 h game time could be extended a lot and it would make the game more interestig too, players could send eachother the levels that they have done etc. Who agrees?

Sounds like good wishful thinkin', and perhaps Larian will do something like that in their next game, but I have no idea if DD is configured to be easily modded. Then again, do you really want to sit around and plant trees, barrels, houses, tables, chairs, plates, food, candles, crates, chests, bookshelves, pictures, etc. etc. for every location in the game you want to create? I would get real tired of those little details real fast. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/sleepey.gif" alt="" />

umm... yeah, but other games like NWN have lever editors, and using them i have never gotten bored. Perhaps you could make presets, for example forest1: it contains lotsa trees and you just place it somewhere. same with the houses, make one, copy it, extend and decorate the copies a little etc. and voilla. And you wouldn't have to make such large maps as rivertown or dark forest...
BTW what game are they working on right now?

I only we knew. we are all waiting for an announcement.

but DD isn't easily modded, there are no real tools available. it's a small team and in the end they even used excel to create parts of the game so....

As far as I know, the Larian-intern editor should be released after the game, but they decided against a release because the tool was to complex for "easy" level building.

But perhaps Arhu or Bronthion can make a statement about the editor because they worked a lot with it.

Hmpf. I cannot believe that somebody builds such a game without using proper tools for that.

well, tools cost time and time is money because you gotta pay them programmers. that's one and 2: ever heard of deadlines? and 3 the Larian team is small.

Well, the Larians had their own Tool.

What Conflux described above.

If you want, you can send Arhu or Bronthion a messege, for example, asking them ...

the reason why that tool prolly didn't get released i guess is because it's very basic, meaning you'll have to do lot's of scripting. For that you'll need to learn the language used to steer the engine.

Other bigger games who have those tools can afford to make them generate those scripts itself

at least that is what I suspect.

Well I don´t think that other tools from other game do some kind of auto-scripting (perhaps only some default stuff like triggering doors or whatever). The Aurora Editor of Neverwinter Nights e.g has its own scripting engine and you also have to learn the language and script by yourself (or copy the scripts from the web). If you want to create interaktivity in a game's mod you need to learn the scripting language of that game. Otherwise you can only build some (boring) levels with some default monsters.

Exactly my point. My big fear is that after a while, people would get so tired of the fine little details and just throw out a huge plot of land. Fighting orcs in their camp was fun; fighting imps in a boring desert with nothing to break up the monotony was not.

If DD had a random level generator like Diablo 2 did, it'd be a lot more reasonable to want to do some level editing, because you'd just need to specify hallway width, twistiness, tileset, etc., and voila, instant level. But as an editor for D2 has yet to come out, I'm thinking it's just not that simple..

autosave feature.. I forget to save sometimes and I usually end up dead when I realize that I hadn't saved sinced I loaded my last save game.

I really hope that this isn't a game that the developers and the publishers decide to just forget about in spite of a few good reviews and a few people who like the game and wouldn't mind a sequel or even an expansion pack.

I hate it when that happens.

Exactly that's the point. You can work much better and faster if you have proper tools. So, the first action should be to make the necessary tools.

all i have to say is that we need respawning monsters....at one point i had killed every single orc on the map and the soldiers in the barracks were still talking about the "war" <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" />
