I've just got this game, upon running it I get the choice of playing
ego draconis or the dragon knight saga
before I bought the game I thought dks was an updated ego draconis with extra content
are they 2 separate games or is dks a sequel to ego draconis.
should I play ego draconis first or is dks the same except it has added missions ?

tnx in advance...

You should have a choice between "Ego Draconis" (ED) and "Flames of Vengance" (FoV) - the Dragon Knight Saga (DKS) is both games combined (and remastered).

If you select ED, you'll start from the beginning. If you select FoV, you'll start from about two thirds of the way through (after the end of the original ED), so you should select ED unless you've played the game before.

Ego Draconis starts you off as a new level 1 character in Farglow.
Flames of Vengeance starts you off as a level 35 character in Aleroth.

A) You can choose to start with Ego Draconis at level 1 in Farglow
B) You can start at the beginning of Flames of Vengeance, but then with a level 35 hero.

Divinity II : The Dragon Knight Saga = complete remastered version of Ego Draconis + add-on FoV.
So in fact it is ONE (1) story, Divinity II.

This Divnity II story you can play also:
C)Start from Farglow, play whole Ego Draconis to the final battle (in the Hall of Echoes ) and IF you survive the final battle the Story continued, SEEMLESS, with Flames of Vengeance, no matter which LEVEL your hero has !! wink

** If I understand right (from reading on this forum), you have still all your gear (and your inventory : the Battle Tower Coffer) from Ego Draconis ! **

Good luck with the Divinity II adventure and have Fun ! smile

PS:
** If someone know this isn't true, say it !! wink **

On 7th of february 2015 : I start a new adventure in the Divinity world of Original Sin,
it's a Fantastic Freaking Fabulous Funny ... it's my All Time Favorite One !
