I'm going from memory here, and my memory is lamentably bad, so this may be of no help at all. But here goes anyway.
From the main hallway, take the corridor on the left and follow it all the way round into the main bedroom. Without turning around, on a pillar to your left above an occasional table is a switch which should open access to the basement. That's your route to the locked room.
