Hello.
I have DD 1.005a and I'm little confused with warrior skills, some specialist skills has percentage bonus to damage (sword, mace), other not like spear or crossbow (just additional 10-30 etc.) and bow has only recoil reduction is this good or not?

The original download version release (1.004a) switched all the weapon expertise skills to a percentage damage bonus, rather than having some with fixed amounts. Apparently the 1.005a update reverted back to the way they were in the disk version of the game.

For the bow, the True Shot skill should give a damage bonus; the expertise skill just helps with recuperation time. True Shot, and the damage portion of Crossbow Expertise, were broke in the disk version of the game, but fixed in the original download version. With some other expertise skills reverting to fixed damage boosts in the 1.005a update, though, I don't know if I'd put too many points into True Shot without testing it, though (I can probably check that later tonight).
Even without True Shot, though, archery is very effective (especially combined with Poison Weapon).

True Shot is broken in the 1.005a version.

In a new save (with the experience edited to get to a high level) I bought a crappy bow from George, maxed the Bow Expertise skill, headed to the small graveyard and fought Jake twice, the second time maxing True Shot (20+30 damage). I missed a couple damage values both tries, but did slightly better the second time, killing Jake with 19 recorded hits vs 24 the first time. The average and standard deviation of the first try was 11.4 ± 6.9, and the second 15.6 ± 8.7. These values are not significantly different, and certainly don't reflect the expected damage boost from True Shot.

Speaking of 1.005a...

In the wake of Div:OS I wanted to play Divinity again. Got the GOG version (1.005a) but now I'm not so sure anymore about what I should do. I heard there's a bug with music transitions between areas? Now, I need my music just right. That means 1.0034a (?), but I also want fixed bugs, which means 1.005a. O, the agony!

Larian: Isn't there a way to redo a final patch from the code you have left? I heard what happened to the 1.005a code (noooooooooo), but from experience I know that the second try will always go faster and turn out much better than the first. smile Maybe you could squeeze in some time like you did with the iPhone game? wink

I'm sure more people are going to want to play Divinity again - or for the first time! - before the Div:OS release. It'd be so great if they could play a "definitive final" (tm) version of the game.

The "definitive final" version of the game is 1.0029A. All problems were fixed by official 1.33 game patch (1.0033A game version). If you don't want to start a new game then you should use patch 1.34 instead. 1.005A does not fix any problem introduced by official 1.33 game patch. I don't care about so-called 'wide screen' fixes. 1.005A game version is identical to 1.0029A and I can't see any reason of using it if you have original RETAIL 3CD version of the game.

The GoG release of DD is a bit of an embarrassment for Larian, for all the reasons stated in this thread. Most of the music is gone. The first GoG release (1.004) fixed some bugs but they all (meaning all of them, meaning even super old ones from 1.0029) came back in the second release (1.005). I assume this is because, as Lar said, someone labeled a disk wrong and all the master changes are gone anyway now.

I own it but I play disk version (1.0034) instead. This is the most bug-free version. I just hack in the widescreen fixes and try to avoid using the big map.

Alas, I guess I was hoping for the 1.004 version then, but that's not really available anywhere anymore, is it? I'm leaning towards 1.33/1.34 now.

flixerflax: Can you give me a pointer to the widescreen fixes you mentioned? I should like to try those out at least.

You can manually set the resolution by editing the config.div file. The game itself should be fine at higher than supported resolutions, but opening the auto-map can cause the game to crash (system and resolution dependent).

Yep, just like Raze said. Open config.div in notepad and enter in desired width and height. I personally use 1680x1050 (scaled up on a 1920x1200 monitor) and also the font enlargement patch so texts are still a good size.

The games runs just fine like this, but opening the automap gives me about a 50% chance of crashing.

Good luck and have fun!
