The beta was updated today. Here is the changelist:

- Updated tutorial videos
- Fixed buy-card menu
- Balancing changes
- Strategy AI: fix armies doing incorrect moves
- Fix AI dropoff at sea with transport
- Shift-CTRL will add selection to control group
- Added player icons to several UIs
- Player icons in lobby

- Better smoothing for AI paths

- Changed enter-key to use default chat

The speed slider seems to be a really good thing, at least for me as someone who enjoys games like supreme commander or sins of a solar empire. Later in the skirmishes I had more the problem that my buildings werent able to produce units automatically which resulted in a pretty hardcore click orgy.
