I said I would start a topic about this and so I have. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/delight.gif" alt="" />

I don't drink so I don't understand the differences in beers. What is a 'lager', for example?

Lets hear all about beer. Cheers! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/party.gif" alt="" />

I could have been very happy not knowing that. "Game over, man! Game over!"

A lager is some kind of English beer, and that's all I know about it. all you need to know is that the Belgian beers are the best

beer is gross, plain and simple. a mjority (yes i spelled it that way on purpose for you =OP) of the people i know simply drink it to get drunk and act like morons.

i don't drink it for three reasons

1) it's gross
2) it's more expensive than water which i get for free from the tap
3) my parents would kick my butt

Ok, I'll try to give a brief description of the different types of beer......

Lager-usually a light, hoppy, fizzy drink. Golden in colour. Very good on a hot, sunny day. Served chilled.

Bitter-A general english description for darker beers. These have a bit less fizz but are usually tastier. There are lots of sub-types of these beers.

Stout-such as guiness, Murphys, Mackeson etc. Made from roasted hops and barley. A meal in themselves. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />Thick and rich in flavour.

Ale-light to dark brown. Sometimes a darker version of lager but usually served warmer. Some are thick like stout i.e. calders, kilkenny, and so on.

Porter-Discovered this in the states. These are very dark beers like guiness but much stronger. Very nice. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/up.gif" alt="" />

I miss anything?

I guess you know the wrong people. Of COURSE we drink it to get drunk. That's the entire purpose!!! I don't want to say that I've never acted like a moron when I'm drunk, because I have on occasion. Mostly when I was younger.
I have had so much FUN with beer its unbelievable though. There are definately more good times than bad because of it.

Here's to beer. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/up.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/up.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/up.gif" alt="" />

I wish i could drink some. But i just cant <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cry.gif" alt="" />.
Not that i'm not old enough.... i'm allergic to alcohol <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cry.gif" alt="" />.

And non-alcoholic beer sucks <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/disagree.gif" alt="" /> .

Jolie,
Ever tried the Kriek. IMHO it's the only one worth tasting. Not sure if it's completely alcohol free. It might just be low on alcohol.
All other non/low alcoholic beers desrve a "tripple" <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/down.gif" alt="" />

yeah, but i don't need beer to have fun. i generally have fun at a party poking fun at the people who've drank way to much. they never remember it in the morning either.

besides, i'm kinda partial to my liver so i'd like to keep it around. not too mention, i don't have to worry about getting arrested for driving after consuming too much water. =)

I still do think that heineken is fine...
anyway... down here the closest i could get to belgian beer is 'stella'
but of course if i am biased i can always say Carlton draught is the best around....

what do you define drunk???....
Is it that state where you start puking all over the place... or is it when you start getting giddy.... If it's not the latter, then i don't drink beer to get drunk... in fact never get drunk b'coz of beer....

when going out, beer is the cheapest thing you can get, even water is more expensive

and I also drink it because I like it, not because I wanna get drunk

There are degrees of drunk. I used to be the unconcious one in the corner when I was young and stupid. Now I just have fun. I guess I should've clarified my definitions better. You learn to control it.
Mickey, the liver is very resilient, it has lots of different enzymes to deal with toxins. Cirrosis only occurs when you drink a bottle of vodka per day.
I had a friend like you who couldn't take his beer. He'd go nuts every time he went out with us and then be talking to Ralph the next day. I guess it was the best thing for him to stop drinking. Still make fun of him everytime I see him though.... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
Seth, I reckon you can put most belgian beers into the wheat beer category. Very nice but give me rancid hangovers. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/sad.gif" alt="" />

Damn, this whole conversation is making me thirsty.....
