Do you take scoundrel and sneak? If so how do you utilize your abilities?

Do you stealth before a fight and open from stealth?

Do you restealth during the fight?

Are rangers viable without stealth?

How does haste work in general and with rangers specifically?

Sorry I am a noob. Thanks.

1 Scoundrel for Walk in Shadows (take at creation, because it will be a while before you find a vendor who sells the skill book). 2 base Sneak +1 from Cautious trait +2 from gear gets you 5 Sneak.

With the Guerrilla trait, attacking from stealth gives you double damage. Ending your turn in stealth can prevent you from getting attacked.

Depends on the fight. You can open a fight by stealthing and taking a potshot at someone to enter combat, but at later levels that's probably more trouble than it's worth.

Yes; stealth, shoot, repeat until your AP gets low, end turn in stealth if possible. You need to be out of enemies' line-of-sight or stealth will fail.

Never tried that...I imagine they'd still be ok as long as you keep your weapon up-to-date and use your special arrows wisely. But Guerrilla + Sneak makes their damage much, much better.

Haste gives you extra AP and movement speed per turn in combat, but only for a short while (2-3 turns). Extra AP = more attacks and movement, which is good. Pretty useful at the right time if you don't have Glass Cannon, less useful without it, I guess.

Rangers are more than viable without any scoundrel abilities.

They need perception anyway, so my first intended ranger/scoundrel hybrid ended as a pure ranger in gameplay with 15 perception (4 from gear) at level 21. Had 15 opening action points since level 17 and was the first to move in any fight, allowing for a minimum of 3 special shots at fight start. Nice combos like 3 static cloud arrows or 2 poison cloud arrows followed by an explosive etc. Special arrows against abilities and resistances for boss fights.

Despite 2 mages as glass cannons I beleive the ranger had the highest skill core from all 4 characters.

So yes - rangers are viable, although youエll find quite some threads on gamesfaq or steam doubting that, but these come from guys who donエt know the game.

Thorsten

Yes, but you can gain access to several useful abilities for just 3 ability points (for 2 Scoundrel). Walk in Shadows, Fast Track, Cloak and Dagger and Charming Touch all come in handy for a ranger or stealth ranger and they're all Dex based just like Expert Marksman skills.

Useful yes, necessary no. I had scoundrel 3 and nearly never used any of these abilities, simply no need. With a hand crafted bow enhanced the ranger had the second highest damage output on top of his crowd control.

The only thing a ranger really needs is human teeth - my consumption of static cloud arrows far exceeded the traders stocks combined.

Thorsten
