I installed Divine Divinity. While walking the sound is fine but upon running the music clicks and stammers. I tried installing the latest patch and even lowering the sound performance by one notch to fix the problem but it persists. I am running an Athlon 1.0 Ghz, 512 RAM. My sound card is the Turtle Beach Santa Cruz, 5.1. Any help would be greatly appriciated. thanks.

Hi Duroc,
Do you have the latest drivers installed?

Do you have anything running in the background, like anti-virus, instant messengers, email, wall paper changers, etc?

hi. I am running XP Professional. I believe all of my drivers are up to date. I tried updating my sound drivers but they were the most recent ones. In terms of running anything in the background, my taskbar is relatively clear. The only two things running are Turtle Beach Santa Cruz control panel and Norton Antivirus Corporate Edition.

Try disabling Norton's real-time scanning. Anti-virus programs cause lots of problems with games and program installations.

thanks for the suggestions. Unfortunately, disabling Norton Anti-virus had no effect. I tried also changing the performance settings. Even on the lowest settings, the sound still jerks and plays choppy while moving. It is almost like my CPU cannot handle the game.

I had no problems with a Duron 900 (and later 1300), 512MB, 32MB GeForce 2MX, Audigy sound, Win98 system, and other people have played with lesser CPUs. Maybe it is a problem with the video? If your video card is hitting the CPU or main memory hard trying to keep up when you run, maybe the sound card is not getting enough resources. Does reducing the resolution or video settings/quality make a difference?

I tried turning the detail to very low with no success. I can understand your reasoning, but I do not see how the game could utilize more then my CPU can supply. My video card is a 64 MB, GeForce 2. It is a wierd occurance. When nothing is moving, the sound is fine but when I run/walk or listening closely, even if an enemie moves (in game motion) causes the sound to falter. thanks again for the reply.

I had sound problems all of the time. I have a Creative Soundblaster 5.1 with the latest drivers and still had crackling and stammering sound. I fixed them this way.....
Start -> Run type dxdiag Go to the sound tab Move the sound acceleration slider down. I had to move mine to the second tick mark.
hope this works <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />

I would just like to thank everyone for their replies. After installing Directx 9.0a and disabling hardware support (completely), the problem was resolved. Now I can actually play!

yes, direct X is usually a issue for things like this.

I have the same audio card as you and I'm having the same problem. How did you disable hardware support?

Click on Start | Run, type in 'dxdiag' then go to the Sound tab of the DirextX Diagnostic Tool that opens.

I actually with a sb live 5.1 get the same anamolies now and then the game just freezes for like a few seconds and the sound repeats especially when loading or saving and I have all my newest drivers and such I think its a problem with divinity and windows xp, as my 98 friends run it way better with less hardware than me.

I treid the new beta drivers and I was still getting the same sound problem, but I was able to set it to basic acceleration which solved some problems I was having it cracking and poping in other games.
