Hello,
I'm still getting my feet wet with this game, but I've just spent an hour trying to find a pyramid that I dropped last night (it was behind a wall, out of sight), and now I've been trying to make a trade or get something repaired, but when I make an offer, I get "Sure, that you want to pay more than these goods are worth?" I mean, what the heck does that mean? It doesn't even make sense?! Didn't anyone question that in beta?? So, I choose 'accept', and absolutely nothing happens. Is that normal?? Shouldn't I get a clue as to what happened or didn't happen?? This other character tells me to round up some herbs, but I can't. I try, but nothing happens.
I have to admit that I'm about one night away from uninstalling and putting this puppy on Ebay. Please tell me that it gets better.

"but when I make an offer, I get "Sure, that you want to pay more than these goods are worth?" I mean, what the heck does that mean? It doesn't even make sense?!"

It means you have more items/gold in your trade window than the other person has in theirs. You can use the balance symbol by each portrait to remove gold from your side or add gold to theirs to even the values off (as much as possible).

"So, I choose 'accept', and absolutely nothing happens. Is that normal??"

The trade should go through; your trade items removed and the other NPC's items added to your inventory.

"This other character tells me to round up some herbs, but I can't."

ALCHEMY SPOILER THREAD

Or are you referring to George? After you do Lanilor a favour, you can ask his permission to gather some Drudanae herbs from his garden.

It does get better.

Yes, Raze is right. It does get better and becomes fun to play. Had trouble understanding the way the shops worked.[the trading part]I know how to spend money.Just ask my Hubby OOOH on second thought don't.He might ask to see the bill. Don't forget YOUR repution plays a BIG part as to how much you're charged or if they'll even sell to you! By the way paying more for goods MAKES the shop keeper like you better. When they like you they sell stuff cheaper.

This would be the worst decision that you could make this is a great game so do continue with it, if your not used to playing RPG's just take it slowly and use the forum when you get stuck.

I'm sorry, but I have to disagree. My character was simply walking around when all of a sudden I could only see the pointer, the icons along the bottom of the screen, and everything else was black. I couldn't even find myself! Once my character appeared from the blackness, he couldn't walk south unless I held down the shift key?? The last straw was when I clicked on a hatch, and my character disappeared again. He's underground, but I can't get there nor bring him back. This is very user unfriendly.
Anyone want a used game cheap??

If you right click on the bottom icon tray it will disappear just right click at the bottom of the screen to bring it back

please stick with it. When I first started to play I thought the interface was really weird but you do get used to it. It is a brilliant game. Raze is so right! Keep using the forums. I used them heaps when I was stuck. I'm now playing through for the second time as a different character. GREAT GAME!!

When i first tried to play DD, i felt the same way... There were so many new things, it was SO uncomfortable and i got confused very fast... left it for half a month and then returned, tried to understand a bit harder, and after some time got used to it... after i got used to it, everything went so fast, that i was in wastelands in no time (well, it felt that way, actually i was playing over a month and had completed 95% of all the quests). So, starting DD is really a pain, even more than any other RPG i played (well, i did start some demos and threw them away and never came back to them, so i can't say DD is most painful, but it is at least "very" ) But RPG tend to have a hard start, because if they don't, you don't have as much fun playing it as you could.

I made the XP that RPG games are more for patient gamers - dealing with all those commands, spells, abilities, choosing the correct skills - trying not to get killed - but this type of game is where I tend to develop emotions towards my char and can delve into another world. I don't have this in strategy games - and being a great Ultima 7 fan (only this one out of the series) ít felt like - coming home

I have played RPG games before, and I'm not complaining about spells and skills....I know that will come along eventually, I just have some gripes about things like my pyramid being hidden behind a wall and not being able to locate it, and the "sure, that you want to pay more than these goods are worth?" I wasn't complaining about the trading process, it was the grammer that didn't make sense!
I'd like to continue playing, but at this moment, my character went down a hatch, but I can't see or access him. When I look at the automap, I can see that he's underground, but in the main screen I'm still above ground without my character! I just can't do anything at this point. I'll start again, for the 4th time, but this is the last chance!

I'd wait until the new patch is released, Lar announced it for tonight - though I'm puzzling over your tech problems. If you wish, you can send me your game - I'd like to see this. Just PM me

The grammer problem was probably something that got a little corrupted in the translation process. Its no big deal most of the time, you kind of expect it from a game that didnt begin life in English. There are far worse games than DD, the translation of which I think is pretty good. Try Gorasul if you want really bad. "The enemy is slamming our rear" has to be the one of the funniest translations I've seen.

You are about 10 minutes into the game. Start a new character, don't lose the pyramid, enjoy.

Or you could return it and quit bothering us. You've obviously made up your mind that you will return the game if it gets worse, which it probably will if you continue with your FIRST game (any RPGer knows that your first go shouldn't be traken seriously.)

The pyramids can ALWAYS be found again as long as you know where ONE of them is. Don't worry if you lose one, just use the other pyramid and it will telport you to the lost one. From there, press ALT to find it and then put it in your inventory.

I'll take the time to point out this guy is a troll and will likely make another thread like this. His previous thread:

Hi gang, I couldn't find a newbie thread and I hope I'm not posting in the wrong place.
Just installed this game over the weekend, been poking around, mostly dying, and I have a few questions. First of all, where the heck am I? I can't seem to get back to any safe place above ground before being brutally assalted. Is there any way to retrace your steps? I've opened a few doors, walked into some portals, and have gotten hopelessly lost. I did have those pyramids earlier, in a previous game, but don't seem to have them now, but they do seem to be an option in my skills? but they're greyed out.

Ok, enough babbling. I'm going to read the manual and start over. Any tips are greatly appreciated.

Bub

Notice anything? Blatant trolling. Hell, he was even silly enough to change his name each troll (unless he is "Dan Bub" or "Bub Dan"). Note the fine effort not to be too specific? It makes us confused and makes his troll more efficient.

I wouldn't call him a troll. I do see that he has some problems, and I can also see that this is (so far) his way to describe his experience.

Anyway, we actually *don't* have any kind of Newbie Thread, because this simply wasn't part of our Forumculture yet.

I must agree: I have seen some games poorly translated into german, because they didn't begin their live as such ...
