Just got started a bit today on my latest addition to the capital city of my campaign. It's going to take a week or two at least before it's completed but it's a good way of improving with the DoS 2: Engine. smile

Day 1 - Just some quick screencaps, don't think I can embed them yet so a quote would be helpful!

Looks good! I must say- that is an interesting use of wall constructions.

Hope you keep us posted, I'm curious to see what it will look like when it's polished.

Will post some more today, the wall is the most time consuming part right now. Mostly since I'm building it up in layers. Adding some details here and there when I want a break from the hours of just walling the area up, haha.

I should probobly say that I haven't gotten through Fort Joy yet, playing through the first (Almost done) with my better half, and then we'll both play through DoS 2. But hard to say no to the editor, it's a bit like the one ring. Terrain and the polishing will have to wait until the walls are at least mostly done. I'll post a couple of more updates for the day here:

Experimenting with a few new angles to make the battlements a bit more realistic. Effectively making murderholes.

Still so much more to do though, but hoping to make a worthy city before the end of it. smile

Starting on the main city streets tonight. With that there will be some alleys, houses, and the main barracks bordering between the more run down parts of the city, and the finer parts. Also added some details and polished up the river a bit in-between. But the only walls remaining now are the palace walls, and the walls leading up to 'Light's Watch', a holy tower reaching further up than the palace itself.

Just two images as of now however, just to show how the wall is nearing completion. I'll see if there's anything more for tomorrow, otherwise I'll probobly update again on Sunday or Monday.

Managed to squeeze in some more work out today and tonight. I'm starting to think that two weeks was perhaps a bit generous of a time limit with this project. Too much OCD to rush through it, but I'm feeling good about the progress today. I think the river is shaping up, and even managed to get in some pokes at the starting 'area' of the slums too. Currently building the theatre, and started on the 'sketching' of buildings around the city. Reason most screens for now are during the night is because I'm waiting until later on with adding light sources to get rid of the black shadows.

There are random items here and there for obvious reasons, including some strange water effects I've put aside until later use.

Flowing river: https://i.gyazo.com/c99e348575b6ac2c60d9d440ad921d73.mp4

I'm using 4-5 materials for the river to give it a proper, mossy feel.

Added some lighting, worked up the terrain. Realized how difficult it can be to make something ugly-good looking. Also worked finished the stage for now, including the backstage with some simple decor. It's also quite fun and interesting to look back at where I started, at least from a personal standpoint, haha. I believe I will need to think about optimizing things as well due to the grand scale of the area.

Really glad with how the 'backlighting' effect worked out with the 2d images.

And no slum should look boring at night!

Great progress! The indoor decoration looks amazing.

I have to ask though, are you aware that you can drag walls with the wall editor? That is a lot of wall constructions.

Add a portion of a wall
In the editor ("mode" bar), a new handle will appear, "edit wall"
select it, then, click the portion of wall you created, it should highlight, and drag it.
furthermore, right mouse button will make options appear...

Still a ton of work left, but started ironing out the administration barracks and its surroundings.

Started with making the skeleton sketch for where a monument will be. Using an old old 'order' from our PnP days called 'The Golden Palm' in our campaign, pretty fitting with the assets too.

Thank you smile - Or maybe it's more luck, heh.

Still needs work done to it, but it's shaping up quite alright.

Haven't furnished the inside of the house yet, the terrain needs more work, and the river as well.

So here's some more screens to add to the already towering pile. Hah.

The roofs have all been made, just have them dragged aside for now. Getting closer at least, but not quite there just yet, hehe.

Impressive, you do got a good sense for details. Seeing the first pictures, I can't help feeling sorry for you, that you went through all the tedious trouble of placing the wall pieces one by one. smile

The last part left now. The outer walls of the palace needs to be done, with the gate leading in. And various more work on the richer parts.

Comparison shot to the one from the start from a similiar angle:

Still counting on a week more before it's done, maybe a few days more. Made sure that it's easy to move around and play around in as well as making sure that most houses are usable for other GMs and in their adventures.

The first house is mostly done, a smaller but 'rich' one, and with its own balcony. Not much to say so I'll just let my screens show the progression. Started thinking about the next district as well, a temple district of some type I believe. The commons needs to be done after that but... that's for later, hah.

Another start from nothing smile

And some of the beginnings of the Palace in question. (I mostly used the high terrain as a placeholder to know where I had planned to have it. You can see it reaching through North to South via the eastern border.)

Yeah, but it's all worth it by the end when you see the final product. ^^

To Skum: I wouldn't call them boring, they look pretty good but it can be fun challenging yourself with what there is to play around with. I find it pretty fun to make more than just the 'box' houses and walls, but I think they have plenty of uses as well. Saves time too I suppose.

It will be released with some lore from the campaign we're running as well.

An example of some flavour text -

Moment by moment; our whole sent quaking, through whispers and shadows and night.

Day by day; our whole sent shifting, through desires of that most carnal of plights.

Week by week; we let go the weak; through whispers, and creaks and laden by fire, our farewells soon too stand their equal,
whisper by whisper; our gold turns to ash, as we away in flight, must flee our plight.

Month by month; we await our return, now longing for whispers and the pleading of creaks, for the creeks now singing, singing for us,
with delight and glee, the vice set us free, and through carnal embrace, our nights turn to linger,
linger through whispers of warmth.

Our children once more, sway and sway, through the sigh of whispers and rain.

And through days of weeks, and moons a many, our whole stand beckoned, to those dreams now reckoned....'

A riddle from a demon, given to the founder of the city. Or so it is said, hehe.

Have some time now to return to the old spots in-between the new additions. Adding some more polishing here and there, but I can't for the life of me find 'gravel'. Been my main issue for the past two days, haha.

Yes, that's a simple, oversized coin by the entrance of the Merchant Guild's estate.

[Linked Image]

They are beyond rich and don't mind showing it. (Still a ton of work needed on the estate however.)

Need to start working on the 'hand' for which finger's will reach out and away from the ceremonial area.

Put in a few (too many perhaps? xD) hours more today, and pretty beat but at least it gave some fruit. Should be completed within 2 days from tomorrow. (Today in Sweden, seeing it's 02:09.)

I'm finding myself mostly pleased though with how things are turning out, but once this is done there is still even more of the city to make. Also thought about reconstructing parts of Baldur's Gate 2 in-between the fiddling with these maps, shouldn't be hard at all design wise. Not talking coding here, haven't done much more than take a glance at it yet.

Just need to finish the wall and the nature surrounding the palace and it's pretty much done. The last day I'll use for polishing up a few things here and there.

Come a far way though smile
[Linked Image]

It was fun to learn about the instance painter too, saves a bit of time as well in the places you can use it.

[Linked Image]

This has probobly been the most fun part of the entire thing, mostly because I can use what I learnt in the slums and apply it to make something better later on.

Probobly the last update before release.
