What are the Best Rpg`s ever created ?? With everything that is out there and the time it takes to play them; you really have to sift through all the Bad ones and just concentrate on the BEST ones.

My list for the ALL TIME GREATEST :
All Bioware games such as -
BALDUR`S GATE SERIES
ICEWIND DALE SERIES
NEVERWINTER NIGHTS

All Blizzard games such as -
DIABLO 1 & 2

FALLOUT 1 & 2 ARE PROBABLY AMONG THE BEST RPG`S EVER,JUST BECAUSE THEY WERE SET IN A POST APOCALYPTIC WORLD INSTEAD OF A FANTASY ONE.

MORROWIND

WIZARDY 8

SYSTEM SHOCK 1 $ 2

DIVINE DIVINITY

X-COM UFO DEFENSE & APOCALYPSE

On Consoles:

ALL ZELDAS AND FINAL FANYASY`S

Any other Great one`s that I have missed ??????

Another vote for Planescape: Torment.

Sorry. The BG series' story just doesn't hold a candle to PS:T. Nor does any other RPG's I've played so far. Ever. It makes all other RPGs' stories seem really, really lame.

I haven't the preseverance to grit my teeth and play through Fallout series, though. Turn-based combat, my arse.

Many consider Daggerfall as one of the best RPGs ever, too, but also point out that it has been very bug-infested.

One of the best console RPG's in my opinion was DragonWarrior (NES)

AHH YES !!! I forgot to add another one that I have played and can`t understand why there were never any sequels ??

PLANESCAPE TORMENT

I do understand that Daggerfall was supposed to be quite a game, but all the horrific talk about the number of Bugs and the less then impressive Graphics by todays standards are enough to keep me away.Although I might try Morrowind. Is this a GOOD game ?? I`ve heard many GOOD things about it.

HOW COULD ANYONE NOT LIKE FALLOUT ?? Turn based or not; as RPG`s go,NONE OTHER has ever come close to copying the style of this game.

MY VOTE FOR THE GREATEST RPG EVER - (DRUMROLL PLEASE)

FALLOUT!! FALLOUT !! FALLOUT !! FALLOUT !! FALLOUT !!

If you were LUCKY enough to find the ALIEN CRASH SITE and get the ALIEN BLASTER (The BEST weapon in the game ever ) you can Rock and Roll. Also set your points to BLOODY MESS in the beginning to see extra lovely Death scenes.

Id have to say xenogears is probibly my favorit.. The second half, where the plot like.. shatters or something, and you get all this crazy stuf that seems like it would make sence if you could just figure out what it all ment.. then it all eventualy comes togeather and makes sence.. and causes your brain to implode... i just love that =D Infact id have to say those cutsceans where they are sitting on the chairs talking.. and the atmosphear it makes.. is just... amazeing. Id love to be able to wright a whole story that emulates that.. i just cant describe it=P It really did things the way it should be, it used the story as a brush and just painted emotion onto you... One of the only games where i acualy cared about the story.. even bg2s story, while it was good.. seemed to un-involved, it seemed like a story.. but xenogears.. it like.. it touched me=P Its like the differance between background listening music and becomeing entraced with a complex classical pice keeping track of every single voice, listening to how they interplay with eachother and hearing the notes that they dont play, allowing yourself to glide with it as it goes up and down and swirls around and ebbs and flows and flashes in a million collors.. i just cant explain it...

Planescape: Torment is the best CRPG ever, by some distance IMO.

For the rest, I'll stick to games that haven't been mentioned so far:

Sea Dogs
Hexplore
Final Fantasy 8

Are all worth checking out. If you can find it, in the case of Hexplore, which is very old...

I wouldn't call the "Realms of Arcania" series the best RPG game ever, but ist *still* comes into my personal top ten list, although this series is clearly outdated nowadays (no flashy 3D graphics, for example )

My vote, as always, to my favourite Planescape Torment.

Never seen a game, that impresses me stronger.

PS: UFO series where cool

Do you remember Buck Rodgers on the C64? I loved to play it until my disk had this read-error and crashed. Couldn´t find someone else who had it too back in GDR times. On my Top Ten list would also appear The Bard´s Tale , Dungeon Master and DSA because they were models for the following.
But the best ever would be Planescape: Torment too.

I like it when these threads pop up.

1. Ultima 4 and 7 (tie)
Great sense of exploration, discovery, and accomplishment. I loved the almost mathematical structure of the Principles and Virtues in U4; the whole game snapped together like an elegant jigsaw puzzle.

2. Baldur's Gate 2
Interesting environments and lots of details to explore. Lots of variety in character builds. Lots of interesting party compositions and NPC interaction. Many ways to solve problems. The party becomes very powerful, we get the nice creamy goodies and get to use them against powerful monsters.

3. Wizard's Crown
Very good tactical combat system that's intricate without being tedious.

4. Divine Divinity
Detailed environements with lots to do and explore. Cute and funny NPCs. It focuses on what's fun about RPGs and strips everything else away. Good UI (except for direct game world interaction, which is fiddly). Lots of different character builds to tinker with. Addicting gameplay that's full of charm.

5. IWD 1 and 2
Decent story and interesting sub quests. The dungeons are well designed and have themes. The fights are more involved and challenging than is usual because they didn't just throw tough monsters at you. They made the fights happen in challenging situations and combined monsters well. Sometimes a simple goblin fight is tougher than you thought it would be.

6. Eternal Dagger
Big story. Lots of exploration. Good combat system.

7. Ultima 3
The first game to give a different slant to the "Defeat the Evil Guy" cliche.

8. Baldur's Gate 1
Heya

9. Pool of Radiance (the original, non-crap game)
10. Planescape

... so I stripped down to nothing but a Super Big Gulp cup and rubberband, and ran up the street screaming "Swing me, gringo!"

I agree that Ultima 7 is one of the best RPGs ever. Also, has a lot of parallels to it. Truly a great game.
