The newsboy in the square in Arx with the dead magisters means to say "Magisters routed" I'm sure. I know of no dialect in which this is pronounced "rooted" when it means a catastrophic defeat. Some of us pronounce it "rooted" when we mean to suggest a route was given. "Rowt" is understood in both senses, I think.

Can't say I'd noticed that. I suppose it does sound odd, though not as odd as hearing people pronouncing networking implements as "rowter". Or other completely random pet hates, herbs as "urbz" and buoys as "booies".

Edit: "Vom is in a strop" etc, for no particular reason. I fear it may be more obvious than I hope.
