I though this might interest the locals...

There is a new RPG in this style currently in production. It is a sci-fi game (yay!) based in a gargantuan space-ship, Harbinger.

Harbinger Official Web Site
There is a demo available in the Files section.

The closest match I can think of is Diablo 1. You have four attributes, Melee, Ranged, Rigging, and Health. Rigging is your ability to use equipment and really only counts for item prerequisits, especially mines. The other three are self explanitary. There are three completely unique characters. Each character uses unique armour and weapons and health potions! There are no skills unfortunately. I think the only common items are Mines and Resistance Boosters. The equivilent of Charms are easily removable and interchangable, though they are specific to an item type (weapon, armour, helmet, etc.). I also think that the story may be non-linear.

Enjoy! Let's see what may come.

That's been around for a few months in the U.S.
The reviews I've seen aren't very good, so I blew it off. For example:

"With so many better options available, Harbinger's shallow gameplay and limited replay value make it difficult to recommend."

Gamespot's Harbinger Review

Are they wrong? Is it fun? I'm jonesing for a new game.

... so I stripped down to nothing but a Super Big Gulp cup and rubberband, and ran up the street screaming "Swing me, gringo!"

It doesn't look particularly great. I got bored during the demo. There's not enough personal development. But it may interest some poeple out there, particularly Diablo 1 fans. It is all combat, some story, and great graphics.

I made the mistake of buying it. BORING.
Totally linear, shoot, run, shoot, run repeat. Yawn save yourself a few dollars and play solitaire if you are that desperate.

I played Harbinger on the Playstation years ago. Spent alot of time running around trying to keep my character alive. Tedious, to say the least. What I did drop some money on was Enclave. Mission based hack and slash, but pretty fun, and challenging in part. The screenshots on the web do not do the game justice. It is actually a nice looking game. You can choose to play on the Light or Dark side, and you recieve new characters to play based on your progress through the game. Nifty,I recommend it.

Harbinger.... I hated this game. THOUGH If it was done by Larian, I think it would have been a MUCH better game.

Just my 2P

Can't believe someone liked it, but maybe it was different on the PS. I wanted my money back after finishing...thats it? didn't take too long to finish either, 3 days, 4-6 hours per.

I played it for a while. Lost interest after it became repetitive. 1-2 hours into the game.... Oh well, 20$ down the crapper.....

I really like Harbinger. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/up.gif" alt="" /> If I had thirty bucks right now I'd go out and buy it. There aren't many sci-fi <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/alien.gif" alt="" /> RPGs out there. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/idea.gif" alt="" /> *hint hint* Larian? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/delight.gif" alt="" /> While I'm waiting for Larian to come out with a kick-butt sci-fi RPG, I'm just gonna stick with <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/div.gif" alt="" />. Can't wait for <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/riftrunner.gif" alt="" /> either. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />

The game was delivered. Have enjoyed the game. But there were some areas where I just wanted to get threw without hit and run,hit and run,hit and run.Wilk and his buddy are now dead.I'm at the last big bad guy [before I go down to plantet]I guess its the end of the game.If any one would like to give me some hints .I have a big <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" /> for you. Over all I liked the game.Something about hack and slash is appealing. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/badsmile2.gif" alt="" />
