I accepted the quest to find Tom's cows. I have found the basement where the butchering went on; but I can't find the person responsible. I get the message "I must find out who own's this house" But no one seems to know. After looking through previous posts I found that the person's name is Dorian. Only problem is, he's no where around? Just where is he? Shouldn't he be around or in the house?

Max, which version are you playing? In earlier versions Dorian disappeared if you had entered house/cellar and stole his meat without having the cowrustler quest. Kiya
And welcome
Hope, you find him - he's the guy with a straw hat, begging for money if you speak to him

I'm not on my home computer now; but I looked all over the place for him. He is not out in front of the house. I did pick up the meat while in the basement though, I read that was an earlier bug. Maybe I didn't Fully accept the quest from Tom

Look into your quest log, please. There is a way to restore vanished NPC - but as he wasn't killed I'm not sure if it work. Kiya Reviving NPC by Raze, click here

It should probably work to reset Dorian's location. There are some NPCs that come and go based on game events, and changing their locations will not help (they will not respond to conversation attempts or attacks if they game has their status set to 'idle'). I would try it anyway, if you don't mind the hex editing.

Gah, he's too fat and ugly for that, DEATH. Oscar Wilde wouldn't like him. Kiya

Wilde was fat and ugly himself - nope, he described Dorian totally different, the blonde youth, eternal beautiful, Roman classic features. I am having the same issue after buying the game on CD ._. Been playing it on Steam up until now (for many, many years in which I wished I could have given the makers more money for it). Does this get fixed with a patch? I am a bit worried to patch so far in the game.
Dorian is gone after I agreed to cover for him, but now I cannot find him in jail. Guess he made it to the Philippines?

If you zip your save folder there and email support@larian.com I can take a look at it. What is the game version? Latest for the disk version is 1.0034A, and it may already be updated, depending on when the CDs were produced (there DVD version is already updated).

Hello Raze, I have already followed your guide on doing this with a hex editor because I thought, you know... I didn't want someone else to invest their time in this. (And I was not aware that you had answered me, sorry). It helped, although I decided not to save it in case it might affect my savegame somehow. Thanks for the guide, very useful even years later.
Edit: It was the CD-Version, it says 2004 on the back.

The game version should be shown in the bottom right of the main menu. Most likely it was already updated, if produced in 2004, though.
