First of all, great game!
But, I have noticed an oddity that I can't find any reference to in the (RT)FM. Occassionally, when I level up and apply my points around...say I bump my strength from 14 to 15 - a while later my strength will revert to 14! I think I've even seen it go back up. No, this has nothing to do with changing items that might be giving me strength boosts - already checked that. It might happen to other attributes too, but I notice it most on strength because I was stuck for 2 levels not being able to use a 15 strength sword because my strength numbers kept reverting back after I'd upgraded them.
Is there any reason for this? If it makes any difference, my character is a female mage. Wizard. Sorceress. You know...whatever.
Also, while I'm at it...is there any kind of "stash" in the game? Someplace I can put extra items for storage, where they'll stay if I exit the game and re-enter? I haven't tried dropping them on the ground to see if that works...will items stay on the ground where you left them?

Have you eaten something? I know there was a piont in my game, where i would drink a dwarven ale, and i couldn't hold my sword anymore! See if that is it... I always left a teleport stone in the Market (Ars Magicana or whatever) and then teleported there to drop stuff off, when i got too much. I left it on the road, it was cool there. And easy to sell, becasue that is where all the big money makers are! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> You can also buy and rent a house in Verditis.
But, for cheaper - leave it in the market! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

If you wait long enough for any food/potion/spell effects to wear off and remove all equipment with stat bonuses (or make sure to take them into account), then the sum of
strength + agility + intelligence + constitution + any unassigned stat points
should be equal to
40 + 5*(Character Level) + (+5 or -5 bonus from Shrine of Good and Evil) + (+5 or +10 stat bonus from Wishing Well, if that was the wish you made) - (1 to 4 stolen by vampire in the dark cave if you saved the boy)
There was some speculation in previous topics that certain monsters might temporarily curse you, but I don't recall if that was ever verified/refuted.
You can leave items anywhere, or collect chests to keep them more organized. They will not disappear or be stolen. It is convenient to leave one teleporter stone by a bed, and collect a few chests nearby for a stash. And like Carrie said, once you have enough loot and find merchants with enough gold, a stash there is useful.

You've probably eaten Strength giving food or drunk a Strength potion. Be careful if you use the sword or carry too much while relying on the temporary influence of one of these substances. When it wears off, your equipment may disappear!
I had to do the same loot-gathering session five times before I realised it was the waning Strength potion causing my loot to disappear.

- (1 to 4 stolen by vampire in the dark cave if you saved the boy) You can lose up to 8 points from the Vampire. (Well, that's the worst I've witnessed.)

I've gotten only about -3, <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" /> I heard that it was something to do with your rep, and also, some foods, like honey add stats also. - (1 to 4 stolen by vampire in the dark cave if you saved the boy) <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/think.gif" alt="" />

I think most people loose 3 (I lost 1 point each in strength, agility and intelligence).

Aorry to bring this up again, but I've found that you don't lose attribute points randomly form being bitten by the vampire. I tried it three times in a row and lost the same seven points each time: - 4 Strength
- 2 Agility
- 1 Inteligence
- 0 Constitution
I think it is pobably related to your Constitution, as I have a Constitution of 12 (even though I'm level 18!). Come to think of it, has anyone lost Constitution to the vampire?

Nope, never - only lost strength, agility and intelligence = 3 pts in toto. Kiya
But I recall Elliot's post in the old forum = IIRC, you don't lose much if con is high - I'm not sure about this.
