So I'm lvl 19 now (I think). playing a Survivor / Bow / Summoner. My basic attack against baddies is summon my 5 skellies, run back and fire away. i also have one lvl of poison arrow for when needed ...

Here's the cheesy rub... I've somehow picked up two lvls of energy cage. One was via book I think, the other via armor. Using this in conjunction with archery, let alone archery and summons, seems extremely unbalancing. i can just keep recasting that thing and stay far from danger.

i haven't seen this on the cheesy tactics list with things like scorpions and frost weapons, both of which I avoid. So here's a warning... to make the game way too easy, take bow and energy cage.

the one question I have: will this become ineffective against bigger baddies (that is, if I dont go beyond rank 2)? I really wish i didnt have it learned, its way too tempting when a mob is taking too long to kite...

If you think Energy Cage is bad just wait until you try out Freeze. Not only does Freeze have a higher max resistance than Energy Cage, but it also causes damage to the victim when the spell is over.

yeah, won't take that either.

i've decided only to use energy cage to hold mobs in place while i take care of their friends. i won't use it to shoot at them. one must keep their honor somehow in all this killing..... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/freak.gif" alt="" />

Hm, I must admit that I still haven't understood how the Energy Cage actually works - even after using it once.

Can someone please explain it to me ?

well, as ive said im not too high a level.

but this is how it worked on a HUGE orc (forget the blue guy's name...)

cast it, and he is surrounded by a magical cage. i dont know if he could hit me if i went close, but as an archer it kept him immobile while i fired arrows at him. so a mob i usually have to kite for a good couple of minutes went down in less than 45 second (with no danger to myself)

it is doesnt work (i assume they resisted) the cage appears, they walk right through it, and the cage goes away. I havent been able to cast it on undead so far, but not sure if that's a lvl of mob resistance, or if all undead can walk through it. which would make sense, it would be silly to think a ghost could be held in any kind of cage, energy or not.

Actually it does depend on the creature's resistance to spirit, you can only cast it at creatures with low resistance(or lower it yourself using curse), and if it works, the creature can't move, fight, avoid hits, cast spells. It really makes the game too easy, I've only used it in crowds, to keep too many monsters from approaching me.

...Carry on, into the horizon, wielding courage, staff in hand, journey through the shadows and dreams and what lies beyond the guardian's keep...
