As in the ones laying on the ground around the temple. I guess they're supposed to magical cursed vines or something? I mean, entangling is one thing, but 1d6 per round in addition to that is a bit much.

Like other types of surfaces, they seem too powerful relative to the DnD rules set, I suggest they just entangle, or maybe do 1 point of damage per turn... of course, if our characters were smart enough to navigate around them rather than trying to run straight though it wouldn't be such an issue.

It's would also be nice if we could burn them off (or even attack them) to clear the area.

Well to be fair the spell Spike growth is similar but does even more damage per step ( 2d4)

If they are natural then yes fire could work.

However if its magical the only way is for a dispel magic etc.

Yeah, just hit them with fire and they die immediately.

Dangerous vegetation is a staple of D&D.

True, but normally not on the sides of a road.

In abandoned areas or temples or something, sure. All of over the place is just annoying though. Hope they tone it down abit.

"Yeah, just hit them with fire and they die immediately."

I'm pretty sure when I tried that the vines were back within seconds.

Edit: Nevermind, could have sworn when I cast fire on them before it didn't work, but just tried again and they turned to ash.

You evidently didn't have the sort of GMs I've played with over the years. Random encounters with lethal vegetables was the least of the danger when travelling, but the flora was definitely out to get you on occasion.

That's not my experience. You are using Fire Bolt I assume? And the vines blacken and 'die' when hit?

We generally got jumped by Goblinoids or Orks. An occasional Dragon or such for some variety in the mix.

Oh and a pyxie coupled with Dryads once. Hoo boy that was a wild ride.

My whole party got ambushed by nixies once. We lost 3/4 of the party who jumped overboard and were enslaved for a year.

One of those WTF moments where the GM got hard looks.

1d6 is in line with Ensnaring Strike from the Ranger spell list. I'm not saying I agree with it, but I'm assuming that is where they got the mechanic from.

The vines are super over-tuned and really annoying with the sheepish pathfinding. Fantasy version of a minefield. Keep them, but reduce damage to 0-1 per turn.

They have real purpose - there's two battles where they are in the area and the enemy just goes around them. Would be nice to actually have them as a feature in the map rather than a mindfield ... for example have a path blocked off where you need to burn them (useful as a tutorial).

Sounds like a great use for Push, or something that has a Push effect to me.
