Well, I really enjoy single-player RPGs on the PC, more than multiplayer. The structure of the game is completely different than what would be needed for multiplayer. In single-player mode I can play whenever I want

thar we go......thanks anthea! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />

<img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/down.gif" alt="" /> multiplayer!! Boo-Hiss Hiss!! Bleeaaaach! Pha-tooey!

I fully agree with Jurak. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />

Look for example at Diablo. When mage was casting spells You must hide because it could kill You too.And thats no fun hiding from person that should help You <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/disagree.gif" alt="" />

Well, If I read this quote on the rr site correctly, multiplayer would work very well.
Quote

Endless replay value through the Battlefields: A demon infested landscape with generated quests.

Since it has generated quests, then it could be a great game that could be played multiplayer and not take 72 hours to finish. Much like my room mate and I play Diablo 2 Lod on the home lan (and we dont *always* go all the way through and kill Diablo or Bhaal each time we play), this could be well worked out if they had the mind to do it.

Just my Five cents here :

Multiplayer is OK but if the game becomes a clone of Diablo : No Thank you... 1 million people all trying to level at the speed of light replaying the same level over and over again : BORING...
Multiplayer also demands a serious investment in server-space, development, support, etc... I prefer that the Lar-guys and girls put their energy in DD2 instead of the multiplayer-version if R².

However, I hope that DD2 will indeed have a multiplayer option but with the my first remark in place : no copy of Diablo please.

or they coud always make it so there r induvidual missions and its like one perosn playeys bad guy and 1person plays good guy. or like on halo where only if both of u die casn u lose the game.

in other words u have the option to ressurect ur buddy.

this probabl;y makes no sense to u but then no ones perfect <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />

Didn't Neverwinter Nights got a multiplay option?
It's not realy the same as Divinity but it has the same sort of game play

I have been frozen in my seat on many occasions not wanting to move my mouse for fear of what might happen next, I’ve heard sounds and voices so clear that I was becoming unsure if they were actually coming from the speakers

Neverwinter Nights has the option of a party of human players versus a human Game Master. The players can do and say whatever they want and the Game Master can respond. No longer are you restricted to talking options 1, 2, 3 and 4 (but only if you have the magical egg).

anthea's right. plus there's just 2 much emphasis on multiplayer portions for most games that single player ends up being just a training ground for multiplayer. if i want multiplayer so badly, i would have subscribed MMORPG.

elgi's right as well, if i want quality time with friends, we'll get drunk together & jam the nite away & as far away from a PC as possible. there's life after computer, u know.

i'd like my riftrunner single player please.

To quote Lar from the interview:

Quote
It'll be big - VERY big. It has a very good 3D engine. It's multiplayer. And it contains a lot of cool features.

Guess that finally answers the Multiplayer question. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />

Well, fine! But having started their universe with a (successful) single-player, thus coming from that angle, and having had enough time (and still having left more till DD2) to brainstorm `bout that matter, i trust Larian to keep a good balance here and satisfy both factions - MP Pros and Cons!

Well, fine for you both, again!
But that by far does not constitute anything like a `common standard´ or similar.
So, just go ahead making your choices - but let others make their own just the same. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/suspicion.gif" alt="" />
I´m sure a lot of other people wouldn´t rank "drinking one´s brains away", and might it even be in company, far behind "playing computer games", multiplayer or singleplayer regardless, on a scale of `senselessness´.

... and as far as me is concerned, no prob at all even for DD2. Just single-player only, that´ll be not in for you in that one then.

And I am sure that you might have got the glimpse of irony in those words - I can generalize it for you if you want: In my opinion, and I am here to state my opinion and not to state others', if I want to do something with other people, I don't like to do that at the PC but without it. This might be sitting together and drinking tea/juice/wine/beer... this might be playing soccer/tennis/basketball/... this might be going to the cinema/theatre/opera... this might be having conversation/sex/nothing... just anything but not playing computer games.

And talking about 'common standards': I would have thought that you are the last person who cares about such a common standard if it's objectively not good for the main game part which can only be the singleplayer part unless you want to have one of those incredibly great MMORPGs! And that is the assumption if people like me don't want a multiplayer-part: If one has to give up the tiniest bit of the singleplayer-part in order to implement a multiplayer-part, then rather only SP! If one can implement both SP and MP parts without any negative effect on the mentioned main game part, well, then feel free... I wouldn't mind it. So, this discussion is only a hypothetical one and being that so I still stick to my opinion.

don't suck nobody's balls but elgi's right again. ragon u're right on senseless drinking. & like u said different people have different ways of enjoyment. true as well. but the subject remains to be multiplayer which i don't have much love for.

while it's nice to have a multiplayer component, i just hate it if developers have too much emphasis that singleplayer ends up being afterthought. that happens to way too many games right now & naming them won't do any help.

just like elgi, i hope Larian can balance well these 2 components (single & multi player) so gamers of opposite (& all) spectrum can enjoy.

good thing we have this forum to talk things out & may Larian WOW us again with another award winning game.

btw, Lar has confirmed in adrenaline vault that DD2 has multiplayer component. so rejoice, mage ragon.

i don't think the single after-thought thingy applys here ,
i think maybe it's the other way around... besides....anyway.... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/think.gif" alt="" />
we all know The LaRiaNs ! can pull it off.... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/up.gif" alt="" />

Just to bring this thread to an end (which makes me very happy of course <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />):

Quote
RPGDot: With the concept of a party present in Riftrunner, will there also be a multiplayer option?

Lar: No. Multiplayer will be included in Divinity 2

A bit <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/offtopic.gif" alt="" /> :
Larian's forums are possibly the friendliest I ever seen. I didn't see flame yet and I really like the people. Now Diablo 2 is full of "TWELVE YAAR OLD ANYONG KIDS1!1! OMG" who often cheat and beef up their characters before going on Player Killing spree. Which is definitly NOT my idea of good time.
Having a dial-up, I cannot play most games online and damn if I care.
