Maybe I am near-sighted or blind (well, yes to the first one at least), but I thought the avatar looked like a rather mysterious, alluring and attractive woman. But the more I look at it, and try to make out the guy, the more confused I get.

Come on, i painted definitely a male face. Okay, elvenfaces look always more androgyn, but still... Okay, how about that then? Still female? (its basically the same source, just artistically improved...)

For character creation, I have the feeling from the short story synopsis that the main character will be static and uncustomizable. For example, you can't choose in the beginning whether or not you can be male, female, wizard, warrior or thief. Is this true, or not? If not, then that is good. If it is the case, then please allow more customization. It would make the game a lot more interesting and fun to play if we can feel more "attached" to the character. No pun intended. Misanthrope? Anyway, i agree on this point. I personally think that Divine Divinity didn't have ENOUGH char customisation, let alone too much. Feck, if they take away even more, I don't know if I'll want this game after all.

I have no connection at all to any ocean nor any sailing enthusiasm and i am only an average swimmer, so i wonder why my parents digged that one out... How could they know that upfront? *digs away...*

Shhhh, I'm undercover. (Yes it's me ) I'd like to know what the face paint is all about before I wonder about the leather stuff.

The corpsepaint, leather clothing and metal stuff are typical symbolics for the most Black Metal Bands. So me and a few friends liked to do this posing also like our favorite bands. Well, it was cool at that time.

Ahhh... Black Metal. I'm more into punk bands than metal. The general style of dress in the punk culture is almost comparable though.
What about skin color? It may be asking too much to change hair color, skin color and clothing color, but a gamer can dream...

*What's this feeling, is it a déjà vu, or am I just repeating myself???* Well, depends a lot on your age really ... if you're still one of those 80's punk person you might compare the style .. but if you're a bit younger, and "punk" today it tends more to the plastic ping bracelet with plastic studs on them ... another difference are the baggy pants of todays punk generation, and the (very uncomfortable ) stretch leather pants of the metal/old punk generation ... And ofcourse there's gothic punk too , V:TM style ... Post Scriptum: I know I'm rambling, what do you expect ?
