At level 4 the wizard can choose some warlock skills. The one I am interested in is Hex. Upon casting hex you gain 1d6 necrotic damage per hit. Using magic missile on a hexed enemy with the Psychic bolt necklace should do 1d4+1 force + 1d4 psychic + 1d6 necrotic damage per missile right? If so a level 2 magic missile has 20+16+24 damage potential with no chance of missing.

Anyone tried this? I dont want to get a mage to level 4 for no reason smile.

This guy did it in this video and he solo'ed the EA with a dwarf wizard.

He literally one shots Minthara at some point.

Cheers mate, that's insane damage from a lv one spell.

But it will probably get fixed. Because it's not supposed to work. Because Hex works when you hit with an attack, and Magic Missile doesn't count as that.

It can't be right as magic missile cast at lv 9 only does a max of something like 55 damage. With this setup you would one shot a room of beholders if cast at level 9.

11d4+11 + 11d4 + 11d6 = 55 + 44 + 66 = 165 max damage lol potentially 2 shotting an ancient red dragon CR24. Quite sad now frown but yeah this has to change. Still that psychic bolt necklace is still a pretty amazing buff for a spell that cannot miss. Just read the D&D 5e definition of hex and it is only supposed to work on an "attack" so it shouldn't even work with eldritch blast as it is classed as a evocation spell.

Conclusion? hex is broken.

According to Google, it looks like Eldritch Blast + Hex is a very common combo for Warlocks in tabletop. (I'm not arguing about overpowered or not)

Yes, because Eldritch Blast requires an attack roll.
