I don’t want to bring up the other game but they implemented what I think is a good mechanic when assigning attribute points to characters.

They have:
27 point buy
Standard array
Dice rolls
And infinite point buy - basically you can make any attribute any number within the boundaries of the race and character.

If Larian is allowing dice rolls and I think they are, then let us just assign stats. There’s no point in forcing people to reroll over and over again so they can get the numbers they want. Just provide it from the get go.

In multiplayer, the host should be able to determine what method is allowed.

I think I read somewhere they said they "heard" the community call for dice rolling. Personally, I would prefer to roll myself and use the same type of graduated point values as the score differs from 10 to adjust - but I have no qualm with the infinite point buy being there too. In BG1 and BG2 I would sit there and reroll for quite awhile and it had its own excitement.

They said they'd have two or three ways of doing it. I personally don't see the value in infinite point buy, but I guess people on Stadia can't just use a save editor.

Infinite points is basically a tool option for you to recreate a character of your own - such as one you played in a home game, or a favorite of yours that you like to play as. Of course, some will use it to make a buff-as-can-be character, but if that's their fun, then that's what it is.

I've a character that has a 6 and an 8, for example, and I'd love to recreate her and play her again in this video game. I'd need to use a manual ability score setting option to do that. Some people feel uncomfortable using external or 3rd party game editors for things like this, and having it openly available in the game naturally would be much preferred.

Exactly. I’m sure there’s a lot of players who want to recreate their tabletop characters. And having to sit through hundreds/thousands of rolls in order to do so seems silly.

I’d even suggest if you go roll or infinite points, the lowest can be three since that is a number you can roll.

Rolling just activates my dice-holic instincts and I roll and roll until I get ridiculous stats.

I would love being able to roll.
I usually roll until I can have 18/16/16/10/10/10 in abilities which is powerfull but not completely OP I guess.

Solasta did it pretty well.
Everything is possible and I think it's an easy thing to implement that could suit to everyone.

What is the point in rolling then? O_o
It sounds like you would more use that infinite points distribution.

Just writing the numbers in feels like cheating.

Rolling the numbers makes them feel earned.

Is this irrational? Probably. But it's still how it is.
