Fishtank no longer exists. All the games they published have been bought up by JoWood. Which was a shame, they had a terific PR lady there and JoWood didn't even come close to what she was capable of doing.

Why dont they ask interplay <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" /> Interplay is dead
Zagreus sits inside your head
Zagreus lives among the dead
Zagreus sees you in your bed
and eats you when you're sleeping
Zagreus at the end of days
Zagreus lies all other ways
Zagreus comes when times a maze
and all of history is weeping

Last time I heard about Interplay was several months ago and they were in some severe financial trouble as well as in some legal problems. I haven't heard a thing regarding them since.

Interplay has been bought by Titus. Neither Titus, nor Interplay are doing very well.

i know of a game you had to downlaod from there site! it was called "ancient evil"
a snippit from the gamespot website: [color:"pink"] Australian game developer Silver Lightning has announced the release of its latest role-playing game. Ancient Evil: The Curse of the Snake Cult is being distributed through a partnership with Softwrap. Using Softwrap's technology, the demo version of the game will also include the full version, which can be unlocked by purchasing the game for $19.95. Ancient Evil can be found on CD-ROMs included in magazines, or it can be downloaded from the official Silver Lightning Web site. [/color]
Soo basicly the developers distribute there own game? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ouch.gif" alt="" />

Which means you can get the unlocking code off somewhere and use it yourself and all your friends. No, I don't like that.

Games don't appear just like that on the shelves in shops. They need to be distributed, so you need distribution channels. Also you need to buy shelf space to make it noticeable, without it the game ends up somewhere in the back of the shop. They need to make and place ads. As a distributor you buy many ads and thus get a discount in magazines. All this does require knowledge and expertise, which a developer normally not has. It's not impossible but it's hard and you don't get any money until the end, which is probably the hardest part.

There is an interesting discussion on how distribution works, here.

I didn't need any publication, i bought it just because it was Belgian (supporting the nation's economy and so on...) <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" /> , then saw whether it was good or not and you all know how lucky i was <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />
Oh well, whatever, nevermind.....

Here are a few other publishers I found while going through a computer magazine
Tri Synergy Inc. Ascaron Summitsoft Strategy First
Summitsoft seems to lean into the RPG catagory more
Strategy First I support a little bit because they Re-released some Sir-Tech programs
The others I never heard of.

@Myrtos : Sorry, but the main theme is like the title : release of the game first in the U.S. , then in Europe.
Intrestingly that's the case with AoW:SM, too.
