Ok, now I'm getting pissed off.

Thanks to all of you that helped me last time with my difficulty levels post; but I'm still having troubles. Here's what I did: I followed the advice given and completed all the in-town quests, then went into the Catacombs. There, I only cleared out down to and including level 2, minus the boss monsters there. After that, I went back up to town and started clearing out the orcs outside of town. Doing pretty well. Eventually, avoiding the boss monsters, I clear out nearly the entire map between the two towns, and then go back to the Catacombs. I go back down to level 2, find the Skeleton Summoner guy. Die in one shot.

You gotta be kidding me.

I'm 8th level! It's 9th! Short of putting five points per level into Constitution, how the HELL am I supposed to beat that?!? Shall I wait until the end of the game to defeat the Catacombs? My Agility and Strength are at about 35 each, my Constitution at about 20. Eventually, I defeated the Summoner by using the *exact same* hit-and-run tactics I've been using with my archer; at least it was a *little* easier this time around (certainly a lot quicker) in that I didn't have to worry about the now-wimpy skellies he kept summoning. So then, just in case, I check out the Guardian that's by the 'Real' axe. And die in one shot.

So, is there anything else I'm doing wrong? Because if this is what I have to look forward to--individual creatures that are effortless, combined with bosses that are all-but impossible--forget it. I am NOT interested.

For the things that kill you in one hit your only choice is to not get hit, freeze helps with this, as a mage its my only option alot of times. I killed Seth at level 3 with freeze and meteor and I had 80 hitpoints... one hit and I'm dead. I like it and I will say that it gets better. Your arsenal gets more diversified and charms allow you to compliment your stats. Did you get any charms from all those orc killings? If so put a point into enchant weapon and add those charms to your armor. Also, agility is your friend, its been my savior more than once, when I dont have my distances and timing in unison and the boss takes a swing at me, he misses.. if not I'm reloading. Another thing you could do to get some real quick temporary hitpoints is take a level in bless, hit it then eat some bread real quick *quicksave* then engage the boss. This gives you a few seconds of more hitpoints, as does aura of guarding.

Forgot to mention Freeze. I had tried that too--but I guess the version I now have--1.34--sets a Spiritual limit to what Freeze affects, like the Death Strike skill; Level 1 Freeze--all that's available to me--didn't work on the Guardian either. He's immune. So I can't do that either...

Freeze has always been resistible, though it can be used with survivor's Curse (which is cumulative and even at level 1 can be cast multiple times on a monster to really bring down its resistances).
It is Frost on a weapon that ignores the target's resistance.

Proportionately the catacombs are very hard but the entire game isn't like that. You'll get stronger and stronger and towards the end of the game you will probably think yourself way overpowered. My suggestion for your problem is death scorpions, from the deadly gift skill. Just one or two of them will take out anything down there. Just don't get too reliant on them, you only get half experience for their kills. Also, a spammable spell like lightning works well. Once you get past the catacombs you're in for some real fun as the game takes off from there.

<img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/offtopic.gif" alt="" />In the catacombs you have the tomb that brings you down to lvl 3. Next to it is an tomb thats locked. I'm dying to know whats in there but my lockpickskill is still to low <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/think.gif" alt="" />. Anyone know if ya can open it up and know if it is worth returning for it <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />? Thxz in advance <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wave.gif" alt="" />

There is no way to lockpick it - you have to go around the outside of it, and open all the other tombs - even though you have been tolf not to. Once you beat all the bad guys and unlock the ones on the outside, the ones in the middle will unlock.

Both tombs lead to the same place; whichever one you open, the other remains locked.
