I know I've been hard on your fan fiction posting but I want you to know that it takes a lot of courage and hard work to do something like this and put it out there for everyone to see. Keep it up buddy.

Thanks. I'm hoping people enjoy it and maybe Larian gets some ideas from it. It'd be fun to see anything I wrote in the game, even somethings small.

But even if not, I love to write and really enjoyed myself.

Blog updated.

Updated the Timeline to change Ketheric's story and Grymforge, Dhourn, Xargrim, and Filro. Had to tweak the Selunite Clerics' story as it no longer fit with latest Dhourn info, etc. Also includes what I could piece together about the Ironhand gnome clan including Barcus' and Wulbren's story, Philomena's and Burrow Warden Meerna's. Includes Decrepit Village story and Glut's also.

Blog updated again. Still trying to figure out the following and think I got it maybe figured out better. Also includes supporting docs now.

Also edited Dark Moon Rising Part 1. The last couple pages needed to be reworked after I found the carrion crawler wall of holes.

Blog updated yet again. This time, just updated the deep gnome story with more evidence and explanations, etc. Also, put it at the end of the timeline since it fit better there in the timeline.

It's the best I could do with the limited clues we have to work with. Still up for debate: Was Decrepit Village the primary base camp for the gnomes, or was there another place out there on Ebonlake that was their primary base? There is evidence to support both potentials.

Blog updated. Made one little revision. In Part 2, Thulla says the following:

Quote
“Anyway,” she continued. “There was an accident. We found the entrance to some temple. True Soul Nere led the way inside. A trap was sprung. There was a cave-in. He was screaming about poison filling the chamber he was in. Then all went quiet.”
“That’s when I noticed Sergeant Thrinn was unconscious on the floor near me,” said Thulla with a grin. “She’s the leader of the duergar under True Soul Nere. Well, actually, she’s the cult duergar leader. There’s two factions; True Soul Cult faction and the regular duergar faction. Most of the duergar, however, are mercenaries hired by Nere.”

I now changed it to:

Quote
“Anyway,” she continued. “There was an accident; a cave-in. I noticed Sergeant Thrinn was unconscious on the floor near me,” said Thulla with a grin. “She’s the leader of the duergar under True Soul Nere. Well, actually, she’s the cult duergar leader. There’s two factions; True Soul Cult faction and the regular duergar faction. Most of the duergar, however, are mercenaries hired by Nere.”

I realized after replaying the Grymforge area that Thrinn's boots getting stolen had nothing to do with Nere being trapped in the temple area. It is clear based on dialogue that Nere gets trapped shortly before the MC and party arrive at the forge. The duergar who escorts you has a convo with the duergar at the forge, and you learn that the duergar with you was sent out to check on Gekh. While he was out, that is when Nere winds up getting trapped in the temple area under the rubble. Thus, the duergar at the forge informs the one escorting the MC of the incident. Therefore, any areas in the story mentioning Nere being trapped in the temple area were removed. Now, just as the MC arrives, they learn about Nere's fate.

Hint hint. Part 6 takes us to Grymforge. smile

Blog updated. Timeline needed some work. After replaying Grymforge and such, the gnome story needed some serious tweaking.

For example, Barcus and Wulbren were obviously not Ironhand Gnomes. Philomeen most likely created the opportunity for Thulla to steal Thrinn's boots. There are more, but I won't include spoilers here. Just know that I've updated the Timeline with quotes and evidence I found in game to help piece the entire story together.

Tweaked a few other items. Gekh and Thrinn are cultists, not True Souls. In Part 2, I mentioned that they were True Souls. Now, I state that they WANT to be True Souls.

Also, I noticed that I never mentioned that Thrinn stabbed Thulla, so I added that as well.

Ugh! OK. So, had to revamp both the Dark Moon Rising story and the Timeline on the blog. I just got confirmation at last.
Grymforge WAS the Ironhand Clan's primary base of operations in the Underdark when the duergar invaded. So, I had to change both what Thulla said and what the Timeline said in this regards - and anything else that went along with it.

So, as it goes:

1. Years before the game, Barcus Wroot goes to Baldur's Gate. Whether Ironhand Clan was already in Baldur's Gate or not by that time, it is unclear, but at some point the Ironhand Clan also goes to Baldur's Gate, having some in Baldur's and some in the Underdark.

2. The Ironhand Clan fights for freedom. There is some sort of blood feud in the city. Looking for a way to turn the tide in the feud, Wulbren finds hints about Grymforge and that there may have been runepowder at Grymforge.

3. Wulbren lays claim to Grymforge and the surrounding area.

4. Wulbren and the Ironhand Clan head to Grymforge, and they find it and set up their main base there. They begin searching for runepowder.

5. Meerna and others go out on various expeditions, as side quests, to search for other resources to use in the meantime. There are 42 expeditions, and Expedition #42 is Decrepit Village.

6. Runepowder is found at Grymforge.

7. Flameshade Clan, the duergar, are hired by True Soul Nere to find Grymforge and claim it. They have been surviving on myconids for a time, slowly butchering Glut's Circle. At this point, however, when Nere hires them, he leads them to completely wipe out Glut's Circle. This is why Spaw shows Nere leading the slaughter against myconids and why he wants Nere's head.

8. Flameshade and Nere arrive at Grymforge shortly after Runepowder is discovered. The gnomes hide the runepowder. Wulbren burns the recipe on how to make it after memorizing it. Flameshade and Nere conquer Grymforge and enslave the surviving gnomes there. Decrepit Village, however, is left alone, for the duergar don't know about it yet.

9. After some time, Philomeen gets the opportunity to use some of the runepowder to create an incident. There's an explosion. Philomeen uses the opportunity to escape with the runepowder up into the hiding place on the northeast side. Thulla uses the opportunity to steal Thrinn's boots. Thulla escapes to Decrepit Village. Gekh follows. Gekh slaughters the gnomes in Decrepit Village. Spaw's myconids help fight back. Gekh and Spaw suffer heavy losses.

How do I know Gyrmforge was their main base of operations? Beldron. He tells us that Wulbren "found it - a small cache, buried down here with a manuscript." Where? Here. Where's here? Grymforge. So, before the duergar showed up, Wulbren found runepowder at Grymforge along with the recipe. Therefore, the gnomes were not just at Decrepit Village, nor were they at some other main campsite. Their main camp was at Grymforge, and Decrepit Village was their satellite location.

Part 6 is finally done. Onward! To Grymforge!

And OH! I'm so pleased with how this part turned out. I guarantee you'll be surprised several times over. I didn't think this story would be better than the Afflicted, but I'm actually starting to think it might be WAY better. I can't wait until I get to some of the later stuff I have planned.

Lol. Honestly, Part 6 is only tipping the Grymforge iceberg, and frankly, I've got STUFF going down that, in my opinion, blows the game out of the water.

Oh, there is SO much they could do with this game. SO much. I do hope you and others enjoy it as much as I am.
