I don't mean RiftRunner is a P:T Ripoff! NEVER! But it's a bit like Planescape, no? Travel between worlds... like Sigil: City of Doors... Personally I didn't play P:T much. I was annoyed by several things and sold the game on eBay... But returning on topic, am I right? Is <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/riftrunner.gif" alt="" /> really a bit like P:T?

God, I hope it is. No RPG will match Torment for years to come, but then, I don't expect any to. If RiftRunner even comes close to Torment, I'll be ecstatic. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />

If the game is anything like PS:T...then i'd love it even more <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
Ps:T is still the best non-action RPG out there. And as you can see with my avatar, i'm still a huge fan <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Well, IMHO the non-action RPG is Arcanum and Fallout (BG serie is more tactical RPG). So can anyone tell me what makes Planescape special? The Planescape setting? So many people like that game that I feel stupid, sometimes.

I didn't personally like Planescape: Torment. It didn't allow for much character customization, didn't offer the full set of D&D classes, and didn't even offer a female starting character option. I dig how DD did it -- even though the intro movie showed a male, you can still pick a female. It's not "realistic" or conforming to the intro or whatever, but making the female CRPG gamers (and there are quite a number of us) happy would make the game more successful IMO.

In addition, I thought the dialogue was crappy, amateur, the writing repetitive and childish, too melodramatic and overly long, and the NPCs just scream "We are so unique!" yet still manage to be boring most of the time, except for one or two they obviously worked on harder. I usually like Black Isle / Interplay games, but PS:T rubbed me off the wrong way. The premise was good, and the overall storyline intriguing, but the execution was subpar in my opinion. I don't play a CRPG to read huge lines to text -- that's for a different genre: computer adventure games. That's just my two cents though. I know I'll get flack from PS:T lovers out there now. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />

When I played P:T, it gave me the opinion it WAS an adventure game. Even the Setting, Planescape, is much more for adventure games more than for hack and slash role playing games.

In my opinion, PS:T is the Philosopher under all RPG games. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />

That's my own , personal opinion.

I agree with Alrik on this one. It wasnt as much as a game as it was an interactive "book". Best damn book i ever played!

I don't like playing books. I'd rather read them. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />

Speaking of which, I'd better get back to Neuromancer... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/offtopic.gif" alt="" />

I have to go with Rose on this one...I have tried to play P.T. a number of times and just loose interest over and over. Sad. If you like alot of reading then go for it. There is alot of it! Overall I like the game though. I really liked the mix of talking and text in <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/div.gif" alt="" /> , and I hope our Larians
will carry the balance over to <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/riftrunner.gif" alt="" /> and <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/div.gif" alt="" />2.

I am not a big fan of narrated text because it takes too much space. I propose to use .ogg format for music and speech, the code is free so I wonder why wouldn't Lar really use it? (It's my favorite format).

To me PS:T is much more than just an interactive book. It has an atmosphere and setting that for me has not yet been matched in any other game. It had a party where each party member had a background that actually influenced the game in one way or the other.
As all games it has it's downsides also, but for me it still ranks at the number 1 position.

However from what is known now about Riftrunner I fail to see how it's to be compared with Planescape:Torment.

Typical influence of the Action-RPG genre.

RR like PT ?? - I wish it would.

Planescape Torment is definitely one of my top 3 RPG. It was the first game where the players decisions and the dialogue options "really" influenced the game world. And is was so much fun with Morte and the other NPCs around <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/silly.gif" alt="" />

Oh yeah! I remember the flying dictionary, morte. It was my favorite NPC of all time! (Except Boo, maybe).

There exists some kind of semi-official ghack (as it seems to me), which turns Morte into an "Easter Egg". <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />

I don't remember where I found it, but I remember that something similar was available for Annah (I think that was her name), too.

EDIT : I just found a place to download that : It's the official Interplay site : http://www.interplay.com/interact/downloads.asp?gameid=9

Yeah, a floating easter egg and Annah dressed up as an Irish leprechaun. Although dressed is a bit of an overstatement in this case <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
You can see images of the original and leprechaun version of Annah here. And the original and easter egg version of Morte here
