If you rescue Volo and invite him back to your camp he is a merchant as well as an excellent eye surgeon. If you hit the trade button on the bottom left when speaking with him you can buy and sell from him. He restocks on gold, animal speaking potions and camp supplies after every long rest.

Where is the enchanted hand crossbow found? I've looked online and didn't find any mention of one. And I haven't come across one yet in the game.

Yeah, I haven't seen one either. I'd love to stumble across an enchanted hand crossbow.

Yeah didn't even realize this was a thing. Seems like his dialogue should give a trade option.

You can trade with lots of NPCs that don't give that option in dialog. Just start talking to them, then move your mouse down to the trade button in the lower left. If the NPC has nothing to trade, then the button won't be there. Usually they have the same things you can pickpocket from them, like a health potion, a small amount of gold, and maybe something else. But Volo has a larger selection, and it gets recharged just like with the other vendors.

Only one I know of is found in the Grymforge. It is called Firestoker.

You can get +1 equipment of more or less any armour or standard weapon from the smith in the druid grove. When his stock refreshes, a random assortment of +1 enhancements will be present, and they can be on anything.
