Something I do wish I could turn off... like a fade to black option. I'd also love to have a "Censor Foul Language" option for people like me who don't like foul language, and for streamers who want to do playthroughs without foul language, nudity, sexual acts, etc.

But mostly because I don't like that stuff, but I love the game and story. Sure, I could NOT do the naughty scenes, but I do then miss out on any romance possibilities at all. Romance does not equal sex, and having an option to create a romance in the game apart from explicit pixel characters doing naughty things would be desirable. I don't even mind the game implying that they are doing naughty things, but I don't want to watch it unfolding in all its strange, awkward pixel horror glory.

I haven't, by the way. I did the whole slap something up over the computer screen to block it out so I could just listen to the dialogue without the naughty bits. I wasn't impressed with the dialogues either, by the way, but some of them do give you greater insights into the characters. So, it is frustrating to not be able to get the dialogues without the naughty bits.

I'm glad you brought this topic to the fore. I must say, the idea of video game developers intentionally crafting their products to be "Let's Play" friendly bothers me for a reason I can't quite put my finger on...yet.

There's also sex without romance. Hey, I'd be happy to see more personalities characterized by their erotic escapades in place of mindless violence; the Realms themselves are certainly fornication friendly (seriously: look it up).

Oh, I know there's plenty of naughty business in Forgotten Realms. I'm not saying it's outside lore or canon to include it. I just don't like it being so in my face. In the past Forgotten Realms CRPGs, I very much appreciated that it wasn't so front and center. If I chose to sleep with one of the characters in a romance, it faded to black. I knew what they did, I got the dialogue before and after, and I didn't have to watch naked pixel people doing it.

I don't like porn. I'd like it to not be in my video games. I try to avoid it. I also don't like swearing, but I put up with that too. If I didn't, I'd never play another video game in my life nowadays.

So, I'm not saying it doesn't make sense that sexual escapades happen in the game. I'm not saying that duergar should suddenly say things like, "Dum diddly. Darn doodly," instead of what they're saying currently. I'd just LIKE to have a censor feature that would cut out all this stuff so that I can play the game without it.

Again, just a suggestion. Not actually even expecting them to do it. I am just a firm believer of "ask and ye shall receive" and "the squeaky wheel gets the kick."

Can't believe I just put a Jesus quote together with a Minsc quote. 🤪

I'm hoping to see more to be honest. It seems so far the Minthara romance scene, and perhaps the Priest of Lovitar was about the only thing that would deserve a mature rating to me.

I also like that the FR do not conform to contemporary human morality. It would seem strange indeed if a fantasy world would have all the same taboos and relationships as modern contemporary people do.

The religions of the Realms certainly deviate; you won't find the same sexual strictness/puritanism in the faiths of, say, Sune, Sharess or Hanali Celanil.

I would hope not. 🤗 Although I consider the literature on the gods of the Faerun to need some updating, and perhaps a retcon due to how many times they die, are reborn, remade turn good or evil etc. I still find it interesting.

As an example: if a developer put in a Dryad or Nymph* and they were fully in the buff without any intervening scenery to obscure the juiciest bits, you'd find that tasteless? There ARE monsters that forego donning apparel and some of them are humanoid...perhaps even attractive by human standards. Furthermore, nudity can be a tool instead of naked (i.e., blatant) titillation: the absence of clothing can sometimes indicate ignorance of/differing social mores or a comparatively alien mind.

* Depending on the edition, I hope the PCs pass their saving throw!

I don't particularly enjoy nudity in art. I don't enjoy it in video games either. Shoot. The harpies are a bit too naked for my taste. I'm not saying that they should change the harpies. They're appropriate for D&D and such. I'm just not the kind of person that enjoys that kind of stuff. Don't need it. If it's there, I try to ignore it and not pay attention to it.

So far, Larian's done rather well, thankfully, in the "IN YOUR FACE NUDITY" department. I very much appreciate it. I might have to not play the game anymore if they go over the top and start having naked statues everywhere, or something of that nature. I'm personally afraid of that. I really want to complete the game, but if they start throwing up nasty stuff all over the place, I'll just have to let my addiction go.

That would be a HUGE disappointment for me, but that's just the kind of person I am. I really don't like nudity in games, movies, art or whatever.

I know. I'm in the minority these days. Whatever. Doesn't matter. It's still who I am. I don't like it or approve of it. Too much of it flooding the media.

It's a personal choice. I don't think a person should view anyone naked but their spouse. I'm not trying to force this on anyone else. I'm just hoping for an option... as slim a hope as that might be to hope for.

And yeah. All this said, I'm getting more and more ready to just let the game go. Chances are, what with everyone's desires on most of these threads, Larian will likely make the game pretty dang mature with lots of nudity, sex, and so forth later in the game.

Sigh... can't find any games without it these days. Sigh...

I sort of agree but not really - to me offering too many romance options within companion pool limits who those companions can be and make things feel very artificial and offputting. I don't think progressive ideology itself is to blame - if all companions were straight and even aimed at male audience it would still feel weird - imagine if every companion you recruit would be designed to appeal to some part of while male demographic. At some point it becomes riddiculous.

Let's turn this coin over; what are your feelings on violence?

I have an issue with violence that is over the top. If the game becomes a Texas Chainsaw Massacre game, I'll probably quit playing. I don't mind some violence, but there's a point when it becomes too much.

So it's similar. I can tolerate scantily dressed people - men or women, doesn't matter. It makes me uncomfortable, but I'll put up with it. Start having harems and orgies and all sorts of explicit stuff, and I'm out.

Violence? Blood and guts I can tolerate and maybe even prefer. It provides some realism to the story. Intestines being torn out, and skin being flayed off, and eyeballs being plucked and possibly even eaten, and people being turned inside out, and all that other kind of stuff... I'm out.

I think even decapitations are borderline. I've played Skyrim, and some of the critical hits you can get in that game... Not a big fan.

But again, that's just me. There's no need to be upset by it. Am I not allowed to ask Larian for an option to maybe turn down graphic violence, sex, nudity, and vulgar language? Do I have to hear the duergar talking about Thrinn choking on Nere's prick? That's disgusting? Can I just have an option to cut out lines like that or at least have him go, "... Thrinn bleep bleep bleep bleep?" or just "vulgar act implied" in subtitles with the volume cut out. Would that be so hard to do? Is that really a huge ask?

"You'll tolerate/prefer some violence, but nudity of any sort is verboten. Is that correct?"

Let's just say I'm more of a rated T for Teen bordering more on the non-gratuitous end of the Teen spectrum. I almost didn't buy the game at all because of it's Mature rating and details stating nudity, sexual content, etc.

The previous games kept it clean, so I was hoping something somewhat similar.

In my book, this game is cringy comical PG13 violence and nudity. You have Disney gameplay mixed with comical overdone blood and meme inducing sex scenes.

Let me add something else. When I write my fanfic, or other stories that I've written, I include violence. I'll have people splitting skulls, and cutting people open, and some pretty graphic things. I've also written things where sex is involved and implied and even nudity.

Violence in stories is a bit different from violence in a video game. Seeing violence in a very graphic and horrific way immediately puts that image imprinted into your mind. Describing it in a book doesn't quite have the same effect of imprinting it into your mind in the same way. When I have sex or nudity in a story, I try to avoid being very descriptive so that I am not enticing people with descriptions about such things. I tried to keep it as tame as possible because you never know what conscience is involved in the reading. I don't want to be the reason why somebody gets all worked up over something and then goes out and tries to reenact it with somebody who's not willing to fulfill that fantasy. I've known people who have problems with sex and controlling themselves. So I don't want to be a problem for those kind of people, and I don't really like things that can be a problem for those people.

I myself am not affected as much by such things. My parents used to take me to a nudist camp every weekend from the time I was 10 to the time I was 17 when I chose to stop going on my own. I've seen all the boobs and butts that I ever would ever want to see in my lifetime.

And I'll tell you now how I felt both then and now. Seeing naked bodies is uncomfortable to me. To me, it should be a special thing between lovers. I want my wife to know that she's All I ever need. I don't need to see naked pixel models. I don't need to see naked pictures of anybody. She's special to me, and I'm special to her. And how do I show her that she's special? One of the ways is that I don't go around staring at other women and admiring their bodies.

That's not something that I have to worry about with violence. Even if a video game is super violent, and I put up with it, it's not like I'm taking what is special between me and my wife and throwing it out the window. So there's a difference between accepting a game being violent and accept a game with nudity and sex flaunted all over the place.

My recommendation? Stick with 2e material; everything up until 1999 or so is rock solid. You'll want to check out Faiths & Avatars, Demihuman Deities and Powers & Pantheons for most everything you need to know. 3e material isn't bad, but not everything from the previous edition was carried over. From 4e onwards, Wizards of the Coast really screwed with The Forgotten Realms and the deities themselves were not spared.

Thanks for the suggestion. I like to keep things current, but the gods of Faerûn particularly what they keep messing around with the Eilistraee/Lloth/Vhaerun and various other gods now gone or assimilated seemed poorly done and confused. I'll see if I Can obtain a copy of the earlier material.

I don't have a problem with nudity per se. I don't need it, but for example in case of the harpies, I find it fitting, it suits their tribal look.
I don't need over-the-top sex scenes, that has become ridiculous in video games. If you want graphic sex, there are platforms for it, is my opinion.
I must say, that I never did the Minthara sex scene, since crazy cultists are not my cup of tea. I saw it in a Let's Play ( wanted to see the evil route, since I have no interest playing it myself. The scene is cringy and I laughed a lot. So yeah, maybe those sex scenes are good for comical relief.

As for violence : I don't need it, but I think, it is done ok in the game.

What was cringy and comical about the scene? It was two people having sex.

I found it not very good. To each their own. If you like it, good for you... I don't.

Of course. I'm not looking for someone to tell me how to feel about it. I'm just curious why it would make someone cringe. Or laugh. But if you don't want to say, that's fine.

I didn't say I liked it. Actually, I think there's too much sexuality on display in modern culture.

If JandK would like a break down of all the ways in which the Minthara scene is poorly made, poorly written and poorly executed, there's a very detailed thread that discusses it, over (Here) ^.^

Unfortunately, I fear they will never take a look since they've blocked me for apparently being insulting to them. They've also blocked, according to their various statements, a large swath of other regular posters of note on these forums for similar reasons; they aren't willing to engage in good faith discussions and generally only show up to go fishing for an argument, which they then dedicate themselves to 'winning', in their view. Generally speaking, the discussion will have a much more pleasant bent if folks just don't engage.
