I just need to post this as its own thread so Larian doesn't miss it.

Can we please not have this as the final UI for temporary hit points? Gale looks like a complete idiot for my whole run because he's using Arcane Ward.

There are so many better ways to display temp HP than making a Valentine's heartburst right over your forehead. And the numbers where they are?? Please tell me this isn't final.

On top of that it is very unclear. A shield would have been better and easier to understand...

My concern is someone clearly spent some time and effort making this and animating it.

I mean, they also added the inner ring (which you can see slightly obscures your HP digits) – just make that a filled meter that gets depleted? At least then it feels like it's protecting you.

I kinda like it ...
I mean i certainly DO appreciate that game now show us clearly that our character is protected beyond his regular hit point pool.
(Wich is quite important when you play HP<50% build. laugh )

And Heart was allways icon for HP in my opinion ... i would not mind Shield tho.

What exactly bother you anyway?
The heart?
Its position?
Its size?
Those beams?
All of the abowe? laugh

And what would you like to see instead of that?

The beams look like thorns.
The heart has a distinct border that makes it too accentuated. It looks like a button to me, but what such a button would possibly do?

Confusing, at best; poor taste at worst.

It does give me a real Catholic Jesus vibe for Gale, that's for sure.

My biggest issue is the placement, covering up your portrait so inelegantly. And it really just doesn't gel with a grittier character (eg. barbarian). Immediately makes them look silly.

Agree —- that is a terrible design choice. I can’t believe a designer actually thought that it was a good idea to screw up portraits with catholic jaysus hearts. Eek.

The fact that this overlay literally obscures other relevant and related information is the worst offender in my book. That's so incredibly dumb. How did that get past design roughs?

Not a fan either. It didn't take me long to figure out what that heart and number is, and I was more amused by the implimentation then annoyed, but I don't think it looks good, nor is informative. I would think it should be closer to actual health - as it is it seems like it's displaying two different mechanics, not bonus hitpoints.

Yeah normally there is only one ring around the perimeter but there is indeed a second ring when you have temp hp. It even covers your hp slightly.

You can see it in the original post. There’s even a small gap where your portrait shows through.

I agree, the current patch 7 implementation of this is very poor design choice that tends to confuse players rather than informing them.

Party control in Baldur's Gate 3 is a complete mess that begs to be addressed. SAY NO TO THE TOILET CHAIN

I’ve never been a fan of slapping numbers on your main portrait. Just put them nearby, or refer to the portraits on the left side if you want to see the exact digits.

These are all great ideas – hopefully the powers that be are paying attention.
