hey!

do range/missile weapons have specific range limit?

does the skills elven sight, ranger sight, and mage sight increase the range of range/missile weapons?

and is agility the only ability or modifier that determines the "to hit" percentage or ability of a character?

Elven/Ranger Sight increase your sight range. Wizard's Sight temporality (or permanently if you cast it twice in the same spot) clears the fog of war in areas you have not been and allows you to see through roofs temporality.

Equipment can have bonuses to Offense, and some weapon expertise can boost your chance to hit.

I think there is a range for weapons and spells, but I didn't get very far with my survivor/archer. IIRC, someone in the old forum posting about their experiments; they found a maximum range (could still target and fire, but not hit enemies), which was different between horizontal and vertical directions. I would think (but have not checked) that weapons and spells have a maximum effective range; as the sight range increases you can target enemies farther away, up to that maximum.

The only range I've noticed is that you must be able to see the target. It cannot be behind anything that blocks sight, and you cannot fire at a target that you can only hear. Aside from that, theoretically you could fire an arrow a couple of kilometres. I don't know if the target must be on the screen as well or not.

So what do you do, use shift and scroll the map along with mouse to target something as far as your sight allows and try to shoot/cast on em?

If you have that much sight, go for it. You cannot see monsters that are outside a certain radius of yourself, determined by your Sight rating, hence you cannot target them. I have sight that extends beyond the screen, so your idea may very well work. I've never tried it though, being a Warrior.

It may be easier if you use CapsLock so that you have one hand free to use the hot-keys.

After doing some experiments myself, I can hit enemies just off screen (1024x768) with a bow or magic using the control key to target.

Using the shift key to move the screen focus allows me to hit any enemy I can see with magic (I started using Lightning, then switched to Hell Spikes since it can not be resisted). However, enemies not shown on the mini map are not displayed when you move the focus over that area, so basically the range is a couple of screen heights/widths away from your character.

Using a bow, the range seemed shorter than that, maybe a screen and a half attacking horizontally and half a screen or so vertically (possibly in part due to nightfall just as I started checking it). I tested this in the wastelands, though, where there are lots of bushes and other obstructions. This may have contributed to the lower observed range compared to using magic. If you wish to narrow down the range for bows more precisely, feel free to repeat this experiment. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />

There is no benefit to increasing your sight range past the mini map size, except to clear more fog of war.

You need to be able to see the target with Sight, not just hear it with Hearing. Hearing has a naturally longer range. Have you tried with Ranger's Sight, Elven Sight and any other benefit you can get?

My sight range was not the problem. I maxed Elven/Ranger Sight, then after testing like that, used the item editor to put a +1000 sight bonus on a ring (which cleared the fog of war for most of the wastelands). Sight range is not the limitation; the game just does not display monsters outside of the mini map range (it would be a waste of resources to do so).
