Well I have been looking at both in the store, cant make up my mind for some reason, both sound like a diablo style game, and all, not sure lol. Personally I dont like the idea of a MALE avatar =( (Didnt DD have any thought to female players?)
Just wanted to hear some reviews from some people if you have DS too. Thanks. =)
And since I seen all these avatars on the forums, I imported my Poser stuff I made =) (So enjoy lol) Sigh.. once im back on DSL again this month, I got UO and Bnet stuff to do again lol. Looking for YET another game to sink into

First, hello and welcome

Ok, DD and Dungeon Sige are as different as Sumo and Kickboxing, both are RPG games but one is tactical/party game, the other is action-rpg (which means you're alone in it). In DD you can be aided by summoned monsters but that's all. DD is has more roleplaying, items and the story is fine. Also DD is in 2D. It's pretty difficult to sum all the advantages of DD in one post, maybe someone like DAD will do it, I don't know.

EDIT: How can one possibly be in Germany/USA?

Dungeon Siege is basically one long road that you run along killing stronger and stronger monsters while upgrading your equipment (a review I read called it a 'rail shooter'). Groups of monsters are too tough to take on with a small party, so at least in the demo I was required to inch up to draw off a smaller number of monsters, then back away, fight, repeat ad nauseam. Apparently the multi player portion is better, but I've only seen a couple comments about it.

Divinity is single player, but has much more open game play, and many more quests / quest variety.

Both games have demos. The beginning (~10%) of Divinity (what the demo includes) and the very end are a little more hack and slash than the majority of the game, with fewer quests. It should give you an idea of the game, however.

I got Dungeon Siege for Christmas. I suppose I should open the box and install it sometime.....

Get both if you can since they are both good games.

DS is geared toward party play but it is possible to go solo in it but be prepared to leave a lot of loot behind, cause unlike DD, if you leave and come back the items dropped will disappear.

It doesn't take much willpower to avoid a game when you found the demo boring and very linear. Plus, I'm disorganized, lazy and have about 15 other things on the go. I hope to whittle down my do-to list before Riftrunner is released.

The donkey was helpful, especially since someone else mentioned objects on the ground would disappear. Also, the lack of level loading was nice (though saving still takes time).

I have played and completed both DS and DD. I enjoyed both of them. However, if you are looking for a new game to sink into, I recommend DD over DS. DD has tons of interesting quests, clever interactions with NPCs, and lots of hack and slash too. DD offers everything I want in a gaming experience and is overall a great role playing game. That is why I am currently playing DD (but not DS) a second time.

DS...ahh I remember that game like yesterday.

Played offline, hack and slashed everything for the next 20 hours.

Played online, got greeted to hacked characters, where the main point in most of the servers is not how good you can build your character, but how good you can hack it (I had a level 150 hacked character and died by an even stronger 150 hacked character). I joined a guild with some psycho guild leader. Left that for another. Nearly everyone in the new guild has a hacked character.

DS...I don't like it one bit.

DS was a boring game to me. I had fun with it for the first few hours but after that it was a direct downhill experience. I did end up beating it, but it took a while because it was pretty much the same thing after the same thing with diffrent names. Now DD was great. It has humor, action, a way better story then DS, and a huge amount of replayability. Go for Divine Divinity over Dungeon Seige, it is better in almost every way.

I agree with "TwiztidT" on this. I have played and beaten "DS" and after a while it was the same thing with slight twists. Got rather old. But I have been playing for weeks (Hour or two every day or two, not continous) and there is something always there to keep you going on to the next one. I am still working my way thru this one with quests still not done yet which I will need too try and go back to to feel like I completed the game! Buy ! You will not regret it!

Ah ok, Lets break this down.
DS - Diablo 2 style, one way paths, with the battle idea of "summoner", good graphics and custom to draw you in with multiplayer as its key item to continued game play that wont be boring.
DD - Summoner style rpg, lotta things, one person with some extras, long storyline with a choice, fight style of Diablo still? No multiplayer, no customization.

Yes, I installed the demo last night. Looks like fun (DS) but it isnt GRABBING me that much to pay 35$ (least not yet lol)
As for Germany/usa, We were born in USA, lived there, just in germany right now. (Not army or so, just family visiting)

As for me... if you wanna know. Well have twin sis as well who plays stuff, so we love multiplayer since we can band up and kill all who oppose.

More known on Ultima Online, Bnet, Shattered Galaxy, and of course the webpage "Stratics", Then if you wanna add Sega Cd emulation and Ultimatebot.com as well you can.

So we love UO alot hehe, 2d rules.. simple, make cash on ebay, blah blah =)
Just looking at this to see what is better FIRST. I doubt the install cd allows multi lang or? (Like if I buy the german one, it would have the english install too?) WOuld be nice.. I HATE playing in german... lol

There is no option for additional languages during install. Besides the fact that the german version was released first, I would think this would increase the space needed for install CDs quite a bit (more for voice than text), without benefiting most people. You may be able to find or order an english version there, or order from someone online that will ship there (depending on the length of your visit).

DS has what is probably the best engine ever created for an RPG. Unfortunately, all of the thought went into the engine, and none into the game itself.

DD is much more well thought out in terms of the game play, with a lot more interesting things for the player to do and side quests to follow.

DS is worth playing, but DD is far superior in terms of the enjoyment you will get from it.

I found Dungeon Siege to have beautiful graphix and an ingenious leveling up system... and not much else. the npcs you meet have absolutely nothing to add to anything and the party member are even worse, being absolutely devoid of any kind of personallity outside of the little spiel they give when you first hire them. combat is rather boring, where you basically just tell your characters to attack and then just hit the "Drink Potion" hotkey until you emerge victorious. I took one look at multiplayer, realized it was the land of hacked characters, and left it and never looked back.

That's not to say that Dungeon Siege doesn't have any merits. I really like the fact that you only use the part of the potion you need, saving what you didn't use for later. The leveling system is rather nice, if a bit limited. The lack of load time is a neat trick and helps reduce the amount of time spent traveling by alot. And the packmules are a big help in clearing out dungeons. (I would have given them up for a way to quickly warp back to town, however...)

All in all, I would say that Dungeon Siege is an okay game, but nowhere near as good as .

I purchased the English version of Divine Divinity at my local EBgames for about $30. It's a rip-off, I know, it should have been $10 cheaper, but eh. It's a good game. More worthwhile than the $$ I spent on a lot of other games. ;P

I played Dungeon Siege for all of a week. It sucks. Don't get it.

You CAN play a female in Divine Divinity. In fact, you have a choice of three different female avatars. You can also play a female in Dungeon Siege, but the question you have to ask yourself is WHY play Dungeon Siege?!?

In short, rocks!

At release, you had to pay 45 Euro here in Germany for , but I think the price has dropped a little bit now.

Get both - they can't be that expensive can they? DS let me down badly because I spent a year and a half playing Total Annihilation - a game by the same lead guy and still the best RTS produced IMHO. DS virtually plays itself. Typical gameplay is you amass a gang of characters. and a donkey. Assign strategies and set off. Now just click somewhere on the map and your guys will deploy and eliminate the opposition with ruthless machine efficiency, healers healing as assigned. At some point this tactic wil lead to you dying en mass. Now you have 2 choices - either play a game of cat and mouse with the enemy, drawing them out in smaller numbers to be killed by your Terminator-esque crew or slide the difficulty down a notch so you can complete the game as quickly as possible and not feel you've wasted your money. I refer to option b as "My Choice" (I re-read this and had to add something - don't get me wrong I could have finished this game on any difficulty setting, the difference is the amount of pain I would have had to gone through to do this.)(okay, I re-read that last comment and what to make something clear - I am not a wuss for not wanting to gut through the pain. I pierced my own nipple 3 times before I liked the look of it so don't talk to me about pain.)(plus I wore a catsuit in the 70s. Pain? You have no idea...). OTOH with a network of even 2 or 3 computers, or just a few guys or gals you trust over the internet and the game actually is fun. Player roles become important. I had a lot of fun with multiplayer LAN but wouldn't touch general internet online play again.

DD now... no multiplayer but a fantastic blend of Diablo 2 meets Baldurs Gate. I honestly think these games need to decide if they're going to be gutsy realtime games like Diablo 2 or thoughtful almost pseudo turnbased like BG (everything was on a timer but you could pause it). Both DD and DS share the "hit <space> to pause" problem. It does kinda cheapen the game. I'm almost 40 and I still have the reflexes for DII so who are they aiming at? Other than that slight gameplay niggle DD was an absolute joy. Funny, surprising and deeply satisfying. Like a good book. It's on the list to replay sometime just to try out different player levelling strategies.

(And do we have any figures for how much each game sold by? Depressing reading I'm sure.)

I'm one of those weirdos that kinda liked DS. It does a lot of things right, in my personal opinion. It's great at clearing away all the boring grunt work so that you can focus on what's fun about the game... it's just that the developers forgot the part where they're supposed to put fun stuff in the game to focus on.

If you have to choose, then the choice is DD. You play DS when you're bored and sick of everything else you have. You play DD because you can't stop playing.

... so I stripped down to nothing but a Super Big Gulp cup and rubberband, and ran up the street screaming "Swing me, gringo!"
