I'm sure this has been answered somewhere, but after weeding through 12 pages and reading spoilers in subject lines that I'd rather not know - I thought I'd just post the question.

I'm in Verdista and I just learned that the cattle rustler (Dorian) I sent to jail is being tortured to death. A guard told me that he was certain the old duke would have let him go by now, but young Janus wants him tortured until he dies. I want to free him, and I've lifted 3 keys around the Town Watch but none of them seem to fit the jail door.

Any suggestions?

thanks!!!

He is in the Stormfist castle jail (entrance from sewers), not the Verdistis jail. You can visit him, but not break him out.

Sorry, he can't be freed. He is in there to stay. smirk

Ah, you are so fast, Raze. That wasn't there when I went into my reply screen.

I could have been very happy not knowing that. "Game over, man! Game over!"

Well, if I can't break him out then I probably don't want to visit him because I would imagine he hates me.

Bummer that you can't break him outta there!

Oh well! Thanks for the speedy answer! I probably would have fumbled around there for another hour trying to figure it out.

You can't save him In some of the versions of this game there is a cut scene of him being hanged I never saw it but Kiya did.

No Maryjo, Dorian wasn't hung - there is a hanging/stopping cutscene in the jail, when I take up lockpicks in the neighbour cell. He is alive. These lockpicks are not in the English version. You know, the same happens if you give Smiruk the wrong axe and afterwards the correct one...

The game just stops and I have to reload. you in the EV can't open/enter his cell, I can in the German version but he stays in the cell.
Kiya

Sorry for the misunderstanding, guess, my English was clumsy.

See? He is alive and well in both versions. And he is only angry if he was given away. Even if you don't do that he will end up in jail.
As I didn't give him away his attitude towards me was +91 = admiring.

...even though I felt horrible about poor Dorian hanging!

Well, now I don't feel so bad knowing that he ends up in jail either way. Hopefully, we'll be able to break him out one day.

I must admit, I was quite annoyed that I couldn't break him out of jail. It seemed rather unfair to me...

Elliot, you have other advantages in the Engl. version the German version doesn't have = Justice .
I guess, the lockpicks were taken away in the EV, so the cutscene problem couldn't occur or the fact, that Dorian's cell can't be opened in the EV helped to solve this problem.

I ran around a bit seeing if there was something I could do, as well. Then I thought, hey, better him than me.

If Dorian was stealing your stuff after you tried to help him out would you feel as sympathetic towards him? Or has your own thievery in the game hardened you to the effects of theft upon the victim?

After around 18 years I've tried to lockpick the door, could not succeed after around 100 tries. Killing the executioner makes me feel relieved about the poor guy's fate tho.
