I got to thinking about this. I run a human and got to wondering if carrying around a torch our using light on an item does this hurt my parties chances to sneak? Does it actually give me a better chance for perception in dark areas?
Yes, if you are sneaking and walk in front of a guard while exposed in full light the guard will see you. If you are in dim light or full darkness then you roll a stealth check and they might now see you.
