TL;DR incoming!
So, I decided to play through the rest of Act 2 because, despite the bugs I was experiencing, I really want to see the rest of this game so I can discuss it with friends without spoilers. I experienced dialogue bugs, cutscenes skipping, Halsin refusing to follow- but I did get through it, and I did enter Act 3. Things were going OK.
And then I got to Wyrm's Crossing and hit all of the horrible lag bugs others have been reporting for weeks. My game freezes up for 5-7 minutes at a time as soon as I step into Wyrm's Crossing, I can move my character but all NPCs including party members are frozen in place, I cannot open menus (not even to close out of the game), I cannot interact with NPCs, doors or items, there's some kind of audio bug where ambient/sfx audio stops and music keeps playing but skips. When the game finally catches up and loads all the way, NPCs LITERALLY SCREEN SHOT ACROSS THE SCREEN like all of their programmed movement of the last 5 minutes is happening at once. It's wild.
If you look at any recent posts on the official Larian Studios or Baldur's Gate 3 Twitter accounts, 30-40% of the replies on any given post are about the Act 3 lag issues. A significant amount of forum posts are about the Act 3 lag issues. A significant amount of Steam Discussion Forum posts are about Act 3 lag issues. While the subreddit is unofficial and not technically something Larian NEEDS to check, if you look at the pinned Feeback post, that is also filled with people struggling with Act 3 lag issues.
All of these issues started to occur after Patch 4, across PC and PS5, in any save files that were not already in Act 3 before Patch 4. It's been weeks and there has not been a single public acknowledgment from Larian about this incredibly game-breaking issue that makes completing the game impossible. The closest thing to a public acknowledgment has been on Swen Vincke's personal Twitter, from several weeks back, where he made a post briefly discussing work Larian is doing to fix the memory leak issues in their engine. (The post is here, dated Nov 7:
https://twitter.com/LarAtLarian/status/1722138531634577426 ) That's the one and only public indication anyone at Larian has made about this, and it isn't even on their actual PR accounts.
I can't help but feel like Larian must be avoiding addressing these issues publicly because they don't want to deter the explosion of sales they're getting from all of the GOTY award sales advertisement they're getting. However, their continued public silence on this issue is just leading to new players excited to see this GOTY award-winning experience hitting Act 3, the climax of hours of gameplay, and not being able to advance at all. It's just generation a lot of negativity towards the game.
This is exactly the time Larian should be using their PR accounts to put out any kind of notice they see these issues and they are working hard on them, which I am sure they are! The radio silence is nothing but a detriment and a frustration to all of their customers.
