For the save editor, I found it more reliable to just give yourself extra skill points, then distribute them from within the game. I think there is a problem with adding points to skills you don't yet know, but I only used the editor for testing a few times. For changes to experience, you need to kill something or complete a quest to get for the game to update it.
Restore the backup data.000 file, or making another copy of your latest save, and try again.
