I don't think gameing is slowed down, but DRM may slow down multi-media playback, etc, and do other potentially bad stuff. From a couple things I read recently, gaming may be the only compeling reason to switch to Vista.

Obviously MS Windows is already proprietary and very restrictive, and well worth rejecting. But the new 'features' in Vista are a Trojan Horse to smuggle in even more restrictions."
BTW, MS removed the restriction of only being able to transfer Vista to a new computer once.
