Not finding it I left, came back 2 hours later, and then started trashing the place in the hopes I would find it. Imagine my surprise when I did. Movies were right!
Yes there is something in that room. However, there are many instances in which you will spot things outside of the NPCs/players line of sight. Specifically in the underground entrance to Ryker's house you spot a bunch of switch mechanisms that are honestly impossible to spot from where they are behind locked doors in a dungeon. Because they don't stay highlighted there is a good chance you will miss them.
