This reflects some of the things I brought up in the spells feedback thread, but it is always good to have more voices and more opinions put forward on their own.
As an aside, Owlbears are actually 'Monstrosities', so you cannot affect them with spells and abilities that target only 'Beasts'. Pity. Though, speak with animals does work for the Owlbear, when really it shouldn't - I don't begrudge Larian that fudge though.
