This may happen in other locations, however I noticed it in the owlbear cave. Ranger beast companions can’t climb ladders or clickable walls. Instead, they follow their beloved master down a steep incline by jumping on their heads and knocking 9/10ths of their HP off in a single stroke.
It gives me ideas for kamikaze spiders killing enemies with death from above, but it’s not nice to do that to their Ranger!
Warlock familiars do this too, but spiders have much bigger butts and so it hurts much more...
