All Alfira have is self-pity, and "clever" talks about not using weapons. :-/
Well, she just lost someone dear to her. Look at the Doctor afetr ROse was stuck in teh parallel world or Donna had to loose her memory to not die. I just watched the Waters of Mars again and the Doctor was basically useless in teh forst half of it, before he got himself together. Same probably will happen with Alfira, should she play a bigger role in whichever form. People are allowed to grief and not be productive after a loss - this applies to 900 year old aliens as much as young tiefling girls.
