The OP is not talking about humor. They are not talking about characters with funny tics like Minsc. They are talking about complete tonal shifts and a mish mash of ideas that break immersion.
It's not funny tics when the whole personality of Minsc is based around being dumb and having a space hamaster. And Jan Jansen is 95% turnips and 5% sad love story.
