I am in for less than 5 minutes and I crash.

System

XP
Pentium 4
1.8 Gig
512 Ram
Updated Drivers

I have installed the latest drivers

I have installed the latest patch

Macafee has checked and I appear all clean and clear.

Looks like a fun game. Wish I could play! Can't even get through Character creation.

Welcome to the forum!

Hmm, sorry.

Is this on a laptop?

Do you have any other games or applications that use a lot of resources, and do they have similar problems?
If you run dxdiag (click Start | Run, type in dxdiag and hit Enter), does it report any problems?
Are you shutting down all non-essential programs (especially anti-virus) before starting the game?

I am running this on a laptop.

I had a similar problem with Morrowind that went away after I update drivers.

I will try the dxdialog.

thanks

The demo doesn't work on my laptop, though Morrowind does.

In another topic, one of the Larians suggested using the 3rd party optimized drivers from Omegadrivers to fix problems with ATI or nVidia graphics chipsets in laptops.

talk about that, seems to crash randomly, yet ultimately, in my system which runs Win Me with the latest drivers.

my specs are definitely in the recommended zone.

athlon xp1800+
384MB DDR266 RAM
geforce 4mx440se
sb live! value

maybe i didn't update my windows to the latest 'features' & whatnots, so that's why it always crashes & gives me directx errors every time. all other games; NWN with all expansions installed, rise of nations with expansion, & ground control singleplayer demo run fine without any hitch.

is patched with 1.45 so that rules out version-related probs. have yet 2 get me system to the workplace to get it hooked online for the updates. do let me know if that isn't necessary. & yes, i've done re-installation in case of corrupted installation.

I had some serious problems there for a LONG time. I fixed it. How?

Well, I had an AMD Athlon XP 3000+ processor in my Asus A7V8X. Now, I checked the mobo compatibility charts, and saw that it was compatible. So I didn't think twice about it. I originally had an Athlon 1400 in that board for over a year and had no problems at all. (It's a bigger leap than I originally thought...I bought the Asus mobo a year after the original processor, and at the time hoped it would be upgradable, according to Asus/AMD, it was supposed to be)

Well, for some graphical applications, it turned out it wasn't so compatible. Some things ran great, some things crashed very brutally. Divinity and BD were two examples right off that had a LOT of problems with that configuration.

I tried everything I could think of, literally. What ended up working was upgrading the motherboard. I got an Epox 8RDA3+, and all my problems have vanished. Much better mobo, too. It was very much worth going down and donating plasma for.
